Good Evening:

Slava Isusu Khrystu!

It is my hope that all of us living here on the East Coast will safe in the blizzard that has been forecasted for tomorrow and Saturday in the New England and NY area. I suppose that some areas of PA may also be hit.

The Boston area is supposed to be hard hit!

God Bless

I pray that our brethren will be spared from danger during this time. Let's hope our brethren across the Northern Atlantic Seaboard will be saved and will be able to rebuild.

The snow began a few hours ago here in northern Mass - on the NH border. Prayers for the safety of all.

There is a strange irony in the First Lesson of the daily lectionary of the Anglican and Lutheran church for this Fourth Friday after the Epiphany:

Isaiah 55:6-11 (pericope actualy 55:1-15)

6 Seek the LORD while he may be found, call upon him while he is near; 7let the wicked forsake their way, and the unrighteous their thoughts; let them return to the LORD, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. 9For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow--and that is what it is doing right now.

Let's pray that all will be safe, off the streets, out of harm's way, and that our homes will not lose their electricity or be flooded or harmed. AMEN....

Small Litany for those who live and/or are traveling through this region:

(1) First "Lord, have mercy." melody.
(2) Second "Lord, have mercy." melody.

Again and again, in peace. Let us pray to the Lord. (1)

For every community along the path of the snow storms and blizzards, and the faithful living in them, will be granted health, patience, comfort, and salvation of all Your people during this time. Let us pray to the Lord. (2)

For those who travel by sea, air, and land, especially for those traveling along the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada this weekend, and for the sick, the suffering, and the captive; for their safety and salvation. Let us pray to the Lord. (1)

Save us, protect us, and preserve us, O God, by Your grace. (2)

Commemorating our most holy, most pure, most glorious Lady, the Theotokos, and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints. Let us commit ourselves, and our whole life, to Christ, our God.

Response: To You, O Lord.

Good Afternoon All:

The Governor of Massachusetts has ordered all vehicles off of the roads as of 4:00 p.m. This is going to be a bad storm. Anyone caught on the roads will be subjected to a $500 fine or a year in jail.

Please be safe in all areas of the storm especially here in Massachusetts and in Rhode Island, CT and in New York

I hope that you and Neil/Irish Melkite are alright.
How much snow did you get up there? It is about a foot or a bit more where I am. Poor doggie is not happy--the snow is higher than her.

Alice,

Up my way - which is on the NH border, it's at least two feet in depth (if you could find a level spot in which it just fell and didn't drift). Where there are drifts - essentially everywhere one looks - the depth is easily three feet or more. And, it's still snowing pretty heavily. I had to remove the plexiglass panel from my back porch door a while ago, so as to shovel away the snow in front of the door and be able to open it outward.

Blessedly, it's very light snow; had it been heavy and wet, things would be much worse.

Many years,

Neil

WOW!! shocked

Thank God you have electricity. Being in a warm house makes such storms tolerable.

Power outages are occurring - due to the very high winds; but, so far, no problems here. I will, however, be very pleased to see a sky without falling snowflakes - which I gather will not be the case until sometime this afternoon.

I do not miss the winters of New England...though I have many memories of fun and shoveling for some much needed money.

I have an aunt and uncle who moved to Peterborough NH about a quarter century ago from southern Pennsylvania.

From their letters I learned that you always plow snow far enough away to make room for the next one.

I'm glad I remembered and followed that advice three years ago when we had the double barrelled blizzards.

When I was a boy we armed ourselves with shovels and went looking for work after such storms...not any more. Nary a boy in sight. Pray for us seniors who must dig ourselves out through 27+, please.
