May this be a successful and healthful Great Fast season, and that we may remember and forgive all transgressions, and pray for repentance for all our failings and wrongdoings. I also ask for forgiveness as well for all my transgressions, and pray for abundant mercy. May we also experience this journey together, and make this season one to remember.
I preached on the prayer of St. Ephraim this morning, and when it comes to failure to live by the final petition "and not to judge my brother" I am one of the most guilty of all men, seeing the worst in almost every situation, imagining conspiracies and attributing the most vile of motives.
Those thoughts surely infect my speech and writing; if that has contaminated this forum and any of you I beg your forgiveness.
God be with each of you. I beg your forgiveness for my offenses. I thank the Lord for such a wonderful church able to guide me through the muddy waters of life.
I humbly ask the forgiveness of all my brothers and sisters here to whom I have given offense in any way.
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
So it was well that tonight I was simply sitting in the pew (we alternate Wednesday evening Lenten services with another congregation) to hear the homily reminding me that Lent is not about US and what WE DO but about what GOD HAS DONE.
Agreed with that. I usually alternate with where I go for Presanctified Liturgies myself. Since the priest from Holy Spirit Parish is at his other parish on Wednesday evenings, I tend to go to St. John the Baptist Cathedral, then on Fridays, Fr. James Batcha is back at Holy Spirit, and I go there. So I feel for ya.
