Wow, talk about resurrecting an old thread! Years ago, the concept of a Byzantine Village was a popular theme hereabouts. https://www.byzcath.org/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/173521/1 And now, due to the political climate, the unveiled attacks on Christianity and the very likely prospect of civil war, it seems like a good time to resurrect the topic. Anyone interested in forming a community based on the Christian East? Sort of like a canonical Old Believer Community. I have found a handful of prospective properties, both in the continental United States and abroad. A self supporting, predominately agrarian society based on family and community, centered on the Church and hopefully a monastic community. I spoke to a few monastics and even a hieromonk, and they are interested. I know that there are several people here interested. I should think that we would need about 10-12 families to initiate it. I have some property url's if anyone wants to take a peek at prospective locations. Just throwing it out there once again, in a serious vein. Lemme know what you think. Alexandr

This idea sounds more and more attractive.
This topic garnered 8 pages of posts when last discussed in 2006.
Is there any interest today?

Alexandr, I'm not sure which side of the divide you're on, but would this be open to Catholics, Orthodox, or both? Guess I should read the thread and find out.

I say we secede Ohio and Pennsylvania from the Union and form a new country called Carpatho-America! It might work.

Wow, I guess all the Vostoichniki have either all died off or have been neutered. Might just be your last chance to save your children and grandchildren from the jack booted thugs coming to your neighborhood soon.

Desertman, we are open to all Christians of the True faith who see whats coming and are prepared to do something about it. We have both Orthodox and Catholics interested.

Not as far south as you, dear Pani! This Russian could not handle the heat and humidity. We need a more tolerable climate. As you know the Garden of Eden was in western Siberia, so if God views that climate as paradise, who am I to argue.

I admit that I have been interested in something like this for a long time. It seems like the odds are insurmountable, but then again, with God's help . . .

My alter ego on another forum has been using the signature "If the Patriarchate of the East held a state like the Vatican I would apply for political asylum".
Pennsylvania sounds really good...we already have Antiochian Village in Ligonier.

Love the AntiOchean Village, enjoyed time there so much. Can't physically handle cold, ice, and snow

Most of Pennsylvania is too close to large population centers. In the event of economic collapse, the risk of being overrun by those fleeing the urban areas would be too great. Some of the areas being proposed are: Northern Maine Western Virginia Western South Carolina Eastern Tennessee Wyoming South Dakota Montana
It has been brought up that the East would be preferable to the West, just based on proximity to existing family members and friends.

Well, we could always try the Plains States, too. Those are usually pretty good. I noticed you have South Dakota, but you have that whole column of states from Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, etc... to consider. Kentucky would be pretty good, I'm sure Rand Paul would applaud an effort such as this.

For us and many of the villager ilk, the homeschooling/ alternative schooling legal environment is an essential consideration. The following states have more intrusive homeschooling/alternative schooling laws: Maine Massachusetts Minnesota New York North Dakota Pennsylvania Rhode Island Utah Vermont Washington West Virginia
