Hello,

I am a recent convert to Eastern Orthodoxy. Ever since I began my studies in Orthodoxy, I wanted to learn more about the Eastern Catholic people and the challenges that they face today. I'm not interested in converting, but I hope that my presence here might in some minute way contribute to healthy relations between our two communions.

I'm pretty amazed by the lack of literature about Eastern Catholicism! I've been reading Fr. Fred J. Saato's American Eastern Catholics and enjoying it so far. Do you guys recommend any other reading material?

Some of you might recognize my username from the OC.net forums. I was relieved to see that this message board's Registration form was fixed so that I could finally join you all!

Welcome to the forum, lovesupreme.

Yes, literature specifically about Eastern & Oriental Catholicism is pretty hard to come by. A few recommendations:

101 Questions and Answers on Eastern Catholic Churches [amazon.com] by Deacon Ed Faulk, a long-time member of this forum and dear friend, is an excellent intro. It's aimed at providing Latin Catholics with a better understanding of their Eastern brethren, but anyone looking to know a bit more about us will find it worthwhile.

Eastern Christian Churches [cnewa.org] by Father Ron Roberson can be read on-line at the CNEWA site (it's also available for purchase from CNEWA). It gives a brief, non-polemic, historical view of each of the Eastern & Oriental Churches, Catholic and Orthodox, as well as a brief look at each today.

Eastern Christian Publications [ecpubs.com], a book publishing house owned and operated by Jack Figel, another forum member, has a large variety of books available on most every aspect of Eastern Christianity, Catholic and Orthodox.

The Eastern Catholic Churches: An Introduction to Their Worship and Spirituality [abebooks.com] by Sister Joan Roccasalvo

Madonna House Publications [madonnahouse.org], which publishes the works of the Servant of God Catherine Doherty and Melkite Archbishop Joseph (Raya), both of blessed memory, which are focused on Eastern Catholic spirituality - both Russian and Melkite

Many years,

Neil
