Joy,

Thank you for the eparchial museum/library contact info. Passaic is really the most appropriate place for these, since that is where Karen's Dad served as a cantor.

When I earlier suggested the cultural center in Parma to Karen, I did so after being unable to find any reference to a museum in Passaic - though I thought I recollected that there was one. Just now, I rechecked Passaic's eparchial website - there is indeed no mention of it there. They really ought to remedy that omission.

Many years,

Neil

Neil,

You are very welcome, my pleasure.....

I have visited many times and performed a ton of research, leave me with the old music manuscripts in old church slavonic and I am in my glory...

If Karen requires any further phone numbers, email addresses to the Bishops offices, etc., just let me know.

On a personal note, Karen's dad performed one of his last funerals at the Cathedral prior to his becoming very ill and passing, that funeral was for my father and I never forgot the beauty and dignity with which he served, our colaberation together chanting the Liturgy and his gracious offer to let me chant the apostol as it was for my dad and it would not be right that he did so when I am experienced to do so.

Wait till things simmer down and when the new Bishop gets settled at the Chancery Neil, I will make it a point to bring up a place for contact information, etch for the museum and library.

Thank you. These books are amazing. I believe from the 1930s. I think that is the route we will take.

thank you so much for your kind words. You bring tears to my eyes. Yes my dad was a kind considerate man. And yes I agree with you regarding the museum in Passaic. Ken Dilkes is our new cantor and he is aware of my plans so I will ask him to guide me in the right direction. I am only a few minutes from the Cathedral in Passaic so thats a good thing,

Karen,

My most sincere thanks and appreciation, you dont know how much it means to me that these gems of your fathers will now reside in the museum/library, they will always be there for future generations to admire, respect and learn from.

I attend the Cathedral and if you ever require anything, feel free to call upon me, if you go to the "Photo Section" and look at the photo of Saint Michaels Choir at Sister Servants Pilgramidge, there I am chanting with the choir. If you are ever at the Cathedral and require anything, feel free to call upon me.

I extend to you my most sincere condolences upon your loss, I also sang with your father for a few funerals and it was always a privledge, my father suffered for so long and when he passed it was your father's chanting that was truly a comfort and blessing to me, for that, I can never thank you enough and I pray for the repose of his soul along with so many other Cantors/singers I have known who unforrunately, there are more that side than this side of paradise....

Thank you again, I cannot tell you how delighted and proud I am your fathers work will be preserved in a very good place forever.

Joy,

No need to apologize. No one is offended. I have all the information I need. I just want to make sure the few choir members I do see are in agreement. They may have other suggestions.

Thanks for caring and for your input.

Hey Curious, I came across your post today and wanted to let you know who A. Petrov is. Actually, his last name is Petrin (Prof Kahanick's 'n' must have looked like a 'v'. Can't explain the vowel) His name is indeed Andrew. He was cantor for many years at St. Mary's Byzantine catholic Church in Whiting IN. He did many arrangements of music which our choirs sang through out the years. It is very probable the he and Prof K. knew each other when Kahanick was serving in Gary IN. I believe Petrin was born in 1909. Not sure when he passed away.

Prof. Andrew Petrin was cantor of St. Mary's, Whiting, IN from 1932 till his death in late 1961, when he was succeeded by Michael Horvat Sr. Professor Petrin's brother-in-law, John Jaroschak, was cantor in Bethlehem, PA.

Both the Eparchial Museum in Passaic and the library of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Seminary in Pittsburgh have collections of cantor materials; we are trying to index those materials in Pittsburgh now.
