Hi all,

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a while. I hope this is the right section to post this in.

A woman at a Byzantine chapel I attended for a time would wear a small, necklace-like icon around her neck. It was basically an icon on a rope, and it was small enough to look right. Is there a name for that? Here we see people wearing crosses or crucifixes so often that I thought it was very refreshing and inspiring to see. Thank you.

One can find enameled icons small enough to wear. Here are some others in silver on eBay. They are from this store.

I like everything I have gotten from them.

Theotokos [ebay.com]
Trinity [ebay.com]

I wear this one

Thanks for the links and input, everyone. These are all great, except the one I saw was a small, painted wooden icon just like any other painted/mounted icon. It was maybe 1"x2". Perhaps this woman just put a hole the icon but I thought it had a place specially for a chain/rope to be worn around the neck.

There is a very beautiful jewelry created by a Russian workshop called "Sofija". I like enamel crosses, some pendants. For example:
a pendant with the Theotokos http://www.sofija.ru/catalog/izdelia/Obraza/podveska_s_bogoroditsey/

a little icon with the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope and Love and Their Mother Sophia. http://www.sofija.ru/catalog/izdeli...ov_i_mat_ikh_sofya_serebro_925_pozolota/

an icon (we call this little icons in Russian "obrazok") with the Psalm 90 http://www.sofija.ru/catalog/izdelia/Obraza/713_podveska_s_90_psalmom_serebro_925_s_pozolotoy/

Let you see also a nice Christmas collection http://www.sofija.ru/catalog/izdelia/rozhdestvenskaya_kollektsiya/

The whole varity of small icons (obrazki) you can see here http://www.sofija.ru/catalog/izdelia/Obraza/?PAGEN_1=3

Look on etsy.com for "orthodox icon pendants." I have gotten several. They are a copy of an icon (about an inch square) mounted on glass somehow and then laminated so they will be water-resistant (you can tell I have no artistic sensibilities!). Anyway, this might be what you are looking for. There is an Orthodox woman who does really nice ones.

The San Damiano Crucifix is an important symbol to Saint Francis of Assisi. He prayed the following prayer before this crucifix to ask God what he should do in his life.
[Most High,
Glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me
true faith,
certain hope,
and perfect charity,
sense and knowledge,
Lord,
that I may carry out
Your holy and true command]
Francis of Assisi: Early Documents vol 1. Pg. 40.

Michael Thoma, there can be problems with payment, while this Internet shop is located in Russia. If you want, I can call them and ask how can a person from the USA purchase their jewelry, whether they send it abroad or not?
