Just curious, No statement came from USCCB regarding the situation in Syria and Egypt? Or may be they just don't care because it hit non Latin Christians?

I have signed so many of these for the Middle East and Christians, have pestered others on forums and by email, and always the number of signatures is disappointing and no where near what is needed...
As I see, this is again the case. Quite frankly, I think it is useless. American Christians are apathetic to their freedom to worship in this country, and they seem to not care about other Christians in the world and their hardships.
Make a petition about something like homosexual marriage or something else that involves sex, and the response will be so passionate that there will be more signatures than you can imagine. This seems to be the only thing the American public cares about....not a good thing at all. Lord have mercy!

You're right, Alice, it has gotten to the point where society only follows what the mainstream media tells them is okay to believe, and what is important to them. I never thought Western society would ever come to this...
It just seems like the faith in today's world has just...making me wonder too much if our faith and teachings have fallen on deaf ears. In this day of Facebook, Youtube, Google, and all these new technologies that make everyone ooh and ahh, it just seems like everyone seems to forget that who they really should be "oohing and ahhing" over should be the works, and the beauty of Our Divine Lord, not over what the next greatest website should be, what the next greatest tech gadget should be... This is what's tearing society apart, and the media on these websites, and the news that's on these new HDTVs just disgusts me half the time. What happened to the days when EWTN was well-watched, and that prayer was more widely accepted? *Sigh*
Perhaps we just need to make sure that those who care to evangelize well enough, and to make sure that word of the Christian world and the news, and everything that will make others put their heart in the right place, and help our brethren in need, such as this... I have no idea what it's going to take to get the Christian world to wake up and take a stand with such things as this, and demand that our brethren be set free, and able to continue their duties that God has instructed of them. We just need to make sure we find ways of getting the faith back into society in this world again.

Did it ever occur to others than me that so many people who actually fill the churches are Sunday-only people? And that doesn't even count the many who call themselves Christian but who rarely darken the doors.
I don't think we could arouse enough people for a real defense of the Faith. Sorry if that sounds defeatist, but I see the numbers and have dealt with the reality through my work for more years than I care to remember. I don't believe that the average church-goer cares much about how he/she ought to put the Faith into action during the rest of the week after Sunday. And that kind of caring is what it takes to have petitions signed and phone calls made to move the powers-that-be to take action on behalf of our brethren in harms way around the world.
The Lord Himself wondered if He would find faith on His return. He also remarked about what He would do with the lukewarm.
