I am reading 'Everyday Saints and Other Stories' by Archimandrite Tikhon (Shevkunov)--a best seller in Russia..

(More than a million copies and several million electronic versions of this book were purchased in less than a year afer its release. Everyday Saints is the English translation of the work that has soared at the top of the bestseller lists in Russia since its publication in late 2011. Winner of several national awards including "Book of the Year", its readership spans philosophical boundaries. Surpassing all competition many times over, it was voted the most popular book in Russia for 2012.)

The English translation does not disappoint. This is an easily readable and descriptive book of wonderful stories of 'everyday saints' in monasteries of Russia. The stories uplift and edify. I LOVE this book, and am trying not to read it all too quickly against my instincts, because I do not want it to end. Books like this rejuvenate my spiritual life.

I highly recommend it.

Dear Bob,

I ordered mine from this monastery, and they got it out to me quickly. I know that it also helps support monasteries when we patronize their gift/book shops on the internet.

I loved this book. I read one chapter before bed every night -- it's very long so it lasted me weeks! It was very inspiring and uplifting!

I've read about halfway through this book and it definitely lives up to all the buzz.
The best thing about it for me is that it really humanizes the image we can sometimes have of monastics. It shows that they are just ordinary people trying to live the Gospel. Even the ones who have extraordinary gifts of the Holy Spirit are very down to earth and it really comes through in this book.

I am happy to report that it is available in e-book form in the Nook store for $9.99. Presumably, it is also available for Kindle. It is also on my wish list :-)

Alice,
I still haven't finished it because when it comes to reading I'm somewhat A.D.D., but I agree it is a book that will definitely be worth reading and re-reading over the years!
