Hello smile

October 1st is the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God - in Slavic churches.

I was wondering - I read that in the East, people are also to rest on the major feast days. (in addition to Liturgy). I was wondering which feast days? what about this one? Is it wrong to work tomorrow?

thanks!

In the best of all worlds, Christians would refrain from work on major feasts and devote themselves to prayer and spiritual works. In times when religious observance was much the norm, the practice was not only allowed but expected and even encouraged; in our modern, secularist society, this is an opportunity that few are given and a luxury that few can afford. No, it is not wrong to work today but, to the extent that one is able to do so, we should seek to publicly or privately observe the solemnity of the feast by prayer, participation at Divine Liturgy, or however else we may.

Many years,

Neil

FWIW, on major Holydays both my wife and I were taught by our parents that even when one couldn't attend Liturgy, routine household work such as laundry, mending, lawn care and cleaning were not to be done. (Obviously, dishes or emergency laundry or cleaning were permitted.)
