Actually this is for Alex... Hey Alex, I've come across the Akathist to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the internet and I would like to ask if I could put that up in our Lay Carmelite Community's website and to add it in the Community Manual that I am making. Many thanks. It is beautiful.

Dear Friend, Of course you may, it is a blessing to me personally that you would use my poor little work to honour Our Lady of Mount Carmel! The Administrator, in his abundant generosity and forebearance with me has put my akathists on a single page for convenience: www.byzcath.org/~alex/ Please feel free to use others as you like. Most Holy Theotokos of Mount Carmel, save us! p.s. Do you know where I could buy a poster of the icon that you have displayed? What do the particular scapulars that your community uses look like? Could I buy some? Alex

Alex, when are you going to tell us what the acrostics mean in Greek? Just kidding. Rejoice, O New Romanos, writer of beautiful strophes.

Dear Diak and Alex, It struck me to see this topic as I had seen the Akathist to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel as well when looking for the St. John Chrysostom akathist. I think it's beautiful. In my little home town in Ohio we've been celebrating the feast of OLOMC for over 100 years; brought here by Italian immigrants. Beautiful procession and mass and feast in honor of Nostra Signora di Monte Carmelo!!!

Dear Vito,
Actually, I've just come across an English Akathist to Saint John Chrysostom, St Basil the Great and St Gregory.
If you would like it, just send me your mailing address and I'll send it out to you.
You can e-mail me at: alex@unicorne.org
Also, what does the image of Our Lady of Mt Carmel that your parish honours look like?
Could you describe it?
Alex

Alex, the Athakist to the Heavenly Ladder of Mystical Heights is beautiful! Is it based on the rosary?
Peace

Dear Indigo, Yes, I wanted to call it the akathist to "Our Lady of the Rosary" but I was afraid that it might scare off some very Eastern people God bless, Alex

www.byzcath.org/~alex/ Alex, Thanks to both you and the Administrator. After the Forum itself, your ByzCath webpage has become the foundation for rebuilding my Favorites list (see my tale of woe on the Town Hall thread on "evolving language"). (I've already posted the link to your Akathist to Our Lady, the Heavenly Ladder of Mystical Ladder for a Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant stationed in Irag, who posted on another forum, looking for a devotion to use while reciting the Rosary.) Now, I'm off to Looys Kreesdosee [ geocities.com] (Bill Ghazarian's homepage). to gather some more links. After that, David Brown's Byzantine Catholic Daily Prayer and Lectionary [ catholic-forum.com] Thanks to both Bill and David for the wealth of info available on their sites . Then, it's web-searching galore; there's not enough years left in my life to wait for all the ones I want and need to fall onto my screen by chance and happenstance. I'll never recreate what I had, but I'll try like heck. Advice to all (advice I've given to others but, at some point stopped following through myself ), periodically back-up your Favorites list on CD or disk! Many years, Neil

Alex Thanks for the permission. I am planning to include the akathist in the prayers during the community meetings of the different Lay Carmelite communities in our diocese and if approved by the National Council, it will be used by the Lay Carmelites of the Philippine Commissariat . As for the poster, I just found it in the website of the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart (US) at http://www.carmelnet.org . Maybe they have some idea to where it can be bought. I once found it in a local bookstore a few years ago but when I returned it was already gone. As for the scapular, we use a wool scapular hand made by the nuns. If you are interested, I will happily send some to you. Just email me privately your P.O. Box number or mailing address.

Alex, It appears in a gallery of images of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at: Gallery #4 Images of OLMC [ carmelnet.org] A footnote at the beginning of the galleries indicates that the source of the images was: P. Rafael Mara Lpez-Mels through his book (and with his permission) "Pinto a mi Madre del Carmen y a sus Santos". A variant of the image, with different coloration and slightly less perspective (I think), nice although less visually pleasing, is at: Gallery #3 Images of OLMC [ carmelnet.org] Many years, Neil

Dear Neil, Your post about the soldier in Iraq moved me to tears - I cannot thank you enough for allowing the akathist to do that kind of outreach! I don't know what to say . . . You've caught me speechless . . . I wonder if the Administrator will be recommending you for some sort of an award for having done so . . . Thanks for the links to the images of OLMC as well! Alex
