VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis has donated his Harley Davidson motorcycle to be sold to raise money for a hostel and soup kitchen that serves Rome’s homeless.

It is not difficult to see why this Pope is gaining admirers.

I have this vision in my head of His Holiness riding into say, Myrtle Beach, SC or Ocean City,MD during Bike Week, having a beer and some fries, telling a story or two and getting a T-Shirt before his security detail catches up with him....

Big, deal.

That's what the Vatican has always done with bizarre gifts the Popes receive.

In fact most of material they get is either given way as gifts or sold again.

There is a whole network of people in Rome who fence the stuff.

I once even saw antique chandeliers from the Vatican that were used during Vatican II to decorate the Basilica.

Happy selling!

I wonder if the Pope knows about all this.

There's that joke about the pope riding his car too quickly through the streets of Rome (if that is possible) and is stopped by an Italian policeman.

Upon seeing it is the pope, he calls his superior and says that he has stopped someone really Big!

The superior asks him how big a deal this person that he has stopped for speeding really is . . .

"I think it might even be someone like God," said the policeman. "He has the pope as his chauffeur!"

Well, since we seem to be going in that direction...

Once Cardinal Wojtyla was out skiing in the Tatra Mountains and came a little too close to the border.

He was immediately stopped by two border policemen who asked to see his papers.

Upon examining the documents one of the guards looked very angry and said "you fool, do you know who's papers you have stolen?"

Ha, Ha, Ha!

Jose
