This morning, Bishop +Gerald came to St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Las Vegas to consecrate our school and convent.

He was joined in the Divine Liturgy by four priests of our eparchy, two of whom were crowned priests, and a Roman Catholic priest.

The liturgy was held outside at our Marian altar, as the crowd was too large to fit inside the church. (This was anticipated and set up; not last minute).

Give or take, 150 were present. Come to think of it, it was more than that, as 150 was the number we had for lunch afterwards. I didn't count the crowd, but counted 29 children kissing the Gospel after his reading.

Our "Miracle in the Desert" is continuing; we now have only the second Knights of Columbus at a Byzantine Parish in the western half of the country, the only school, and are growing. Permits are pending for additional school buildings to increase to two classes per grade, as well as my efforts to kick-start a high school. If I have it straight, the next construction phase will have additional classrooms, the gym, and an auditorium/hall with a commercial kitchen (in addition to the school kitchen). The space in the auditorium or gym will allow us to hold liturgy there instead of moving to two Sunday liturgies until we build another church.

Oh, and a 4th Degree KofC assembly will be moving to meet at our parish come January.

Which religious community will be living in the convent? I hope it is a good group.

The Sisters of St. Basil.

Several of them were actually getting left with nothing to do. Initial discussions with them about a daycare center, with the assistance of generous donors, led to a school instead . . . (we have told Fr. Marcus that he isn't allowed to pray for rain!)

We have two in residence, and there should be a total of 6-12 by the time they come here. It will be a new mother house, not a convent. A discernment house is also being purchased.

Wonderful news! We visited St. Gabriel during the summer of 2012 on a family cross-country trip & the school was not yet open. The outside Marian altar was beautiful!
