There is currently a Chaldean & Assyrian Catholic mission in Tucson. If anyone knows where (at what church, etc) it meets, please let me know.

There is also a Chaldean & Assyrian Catholic mission scheduled to open in Gilbert within the next 60 days (July, tentatively, from what I understand). If anyone hears any news as to where it will be meeting, I'd appreciate knowing that as well.

Many years,

Neil

According to Mar Auraha Chaldean Catholic Church in Scottsdale website (http://marauraha.com/wp/about), the Tucson Mission meets at:

St. Joseph Catholic Parish: 215 S. Craycroft Rd., Tucson AZ 85711

Every other Sunday: Mass 5:30 (Chaldean & Arabic)

As for Gilbert, that same website states:

•July 10, 2011: The first Chaldean Mass will be celebrated in the southeastern part of the Valley, in the city of Gilbert, where up to 150 Chaldean families live.

Bless Father

If the Chaldean Catholic Parishes use the word ' Mass' on their Parish Websites - then that is the term they normally use and who are we to question that ?

Here is another example

Tom,

When I didn't get any answer back then, it was my intent to follow-up and watch for updates as the summer passed - but, like many things, the plan got lost in the shuffle. Thanks for finding and providing the information.

Many years,

Neil

Wow! Thanks for this. I'm going to try to go there some Sunday and see what it's like. I live in Tucson and I'm Byzantine Catholic and I didn't know anything about it. Not only that, my home and my Byz Cath parish is only about 1-2 miles down the road from St Joseph's!

As an individual I have no standing but the magisterium of the Church does! The whole thrust of that solemn teaching authority since Vatican II has been to mandate a return to ancestral tradition, to authenticity. Surely that must include using traditional terminology -- though I admit this is just the tip of the iceberg! "Mass" facing the people is a more egregious example of colonized mentality! Why be so exigent in demanding authenticity (i.e., no latinizations) in the Byzantine Rite and so passively accepting of the equivalent in other Rites?

Hello,
my name is Rita, I am a 23-year-old- student from Germany. In January (until March) I will work as a teacher and do an internship at the International School of Tucson. Now I am looking for a room or host family to stay.

Surely I will help around the house or pay a little bit, if that is requested. But how can I contact families? Can you please help me?

Thanks in advance and God bless,
many greetings from Germany,
Rita

Rita,

Welcome to the Forum! I recommend that you contact the Eastern Christian parishes in Tucson directly and ask them to put a notice in their weekly bulletin seeking a host family for the time you will be in Tucson.

Best wishes!
John

Welcome to the forum! I lived in Tucson until a year ago.

Try contacting the Chaldean parish in Scottsdale at azstar2011@yahoo.com. My experience was they took awhile to answer, but they did get back to me. If you don't have any success, I can connect you with the pastor at my former parish (Byzantine Catholic) and perhaps, as John mentioned, a notice could be placed in the weekly bulletin. There is also a Ukrainian Catholic parish in Tucson.

Feel free to PM me, if you like.
