His Holiness will be naming new cardinals. Will His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk be among them? From Whispers in the Loggia [ whispersintheloggia.blogspot.com]: Yet even more notably, as part of an expected increase of the College's Eastern presence, both protocol and personal ties would see a seat going to the head of the largest Oriental body in communion with Rome – the major-archbishop of the 6 million-member Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, who at 43 would become the youngest cardinal elevated in the last century. Will we see a red klobuk?

I should hope not! And why would anyone want it? Official recognition of his patriarchate--now that's something for which to hold out. After all, a Cardinal is but a flunky, whereas a Patriarch is the head of a Church, and equal to the Pope in grace and dignity.

A momentus decision would be to admit the highest ranking heirarch of each sui juiris Church to the college with rights to vote for Pope.

StuartK,
The fact remains that it is probable considering that His Holiness and His Beatitude know each other well and that His Beatitude's predecessors have been named cardinals.
Would His Beatitude turn it down, if offered? We'll have to wait and see, but if his name is included when the names are announced, then we know that he accepted.

Which they did for political reasons that no longer pertain. It is time to uphold the honor and dignity of the Patriarchal office, which is greater than that held by a mere cardinal. If his opinion isn't worthwhile as Patriarch, why should it be worthwhile as Cardinal? Besides, the heads of particular Churches should not take honorifics specific to another particular Church.

And another point to be borne in mind
His Beatitude Lubomyr is still very active even though he no longer is eligible to vote in a Conclave

It seems Patriarchs do not become Popes, but Cardinals do. Prediction: Patriarch Sviatoslav will be Pope some day.

While I understand your Urainian pride, I would place your prediction as being somewhat more likely than the New York Jets winning the Super Bowl this season and less likely than the Greeks recapturing Constantinople. That isn't to say it could not happen, but honestly - I doubt it.

Super Bowl - Shmooper Bowl! As my grandmother often said: '"mark my words". We WILL have a Ukrainian Pope.

On a trip to Russia Jesus revealed to her that He will unify His Church by having the Russian Patriarch also become Pope of Rome. Despite numerous Vatican statements on Vassula I am really not sure how Catholics regard her.

Only as long as it is clear their right to vote derives from their position as Patriarchs, and not indirectly because they have been named to the College of Cardinals.

Excommunicated by the Church of Constantinople in 2011 but still, I think, in good standing with the Vatican. With grave suspicion ?
