If Putin has Russia's best interests at heart, why has he pursued policies which have led to the moral and economic degradation of the Russian state and people? Just asking'.

Am I passing judgement? You bet. I suppose time will tell who is being naïve. I love Putin's courage to speak out against issues such as gay "marriage" and abortion. And it seems like he is a devout Orthodox Christian. On the other side of the world, we have a man who is a champion of abortion on demand; gay "marriage;" and Euthanasia; This same man gives weapons to known terrorists in Syria as they bomb monasteries and churches and kill Christians. I could go on.....but I'm sure you get the point.

Recluse,
Putin speaks for Christian values to solidify core political support - that's what he is about. He also gains friends around the globe. That's what he wants to do as well.
He is brilliant at getting what he wants. No argument there at all. He certainly outwitted the USA with respect to Syria. And he will doubtless outwit it again.
If you think he is about spiritual sincerity . . . as I said, he is a brilliant tactician . . .
Alex

Dear Alice, Putin is against the imposition of any agenda that offends those who contribute to his power base. He is, in the first instance, a great political mind. Like all great leaders in history, religion is one of many pawns that is manipulated toward less spiritual ends. He has us all convinced of his sincerity and that he is the man of the hour when it comes to being a defender of all that we see being denigrated in the West. He is the master of "checkmate, I gotcha." Even Stuart seems to admit this by his silence on this issue . . . Oh, and I prophesy that Slavipodvizhnik will produce all kinds of articles and links to support Putin's spiritual crusader-like attitude. Wait . . . I was right! He has!! Putin's spiritual prowess must be rubbing off even on lowly me!! Alex

When it comes to President Putin's defence of Christians and Christian values - seeing is really believing.
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and see what steps he will take.
He's proven he can talk the talk. Now let's see if he can walk the walk.
My own view is that he will walk it. He is doubtless the most brilliant political leader on this planet right now. He will try and succeed, as he already has, to get traditional Christians on his side, especially American Christians who will see in him a true Christian leader without considering the hidden political agenda behind it all.
One can't help but admire a skillful political genius like that.
He is smarter than all of us put together and then some.
Alex

Never trust a politician, especially when his/her lips are flapping.
Didn't GW promise to "take freedom and democracy" to Iraq? How's that working out? How about "weapons of mass destruction"? "Yellow cake" and all the rest? I mean, one doesn't bother with the Bible, while the other lies between those Bible quoting teeth. Who's the better man?
Who am I to judge?

Better than just about anyplace else in the Arab world. We won, and long-term strategic gains were in our grasp. All the Light Worker had to do was negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) that would have allowed us to remain to guarantee stability, but no, he couldn't even manage that. Too busy telling people they could keep their health care plans under the Affordable Care Act. Even without a U.S. stabilizing presence, most parts of Iraq are a lot more peaceful than Detroit or Chicago.

Even Stuart seems to admit this by his silence on this issue . . . It's easy to look like a chess grand master when you're playing against the village idiot.
