Thanks, Ray, for sharing the link (with a most beautiful Ava Maria being sung) to the history behind the Russian icon's arrival at the Catholic Church.

While I applaud this parish for having a devotion to the Mother of God with this icon, there is *no* way the icon is from the 16th century as they claim. This style of icon is known as the "Kozelshchanskaya Icon," and it didn't become prominent until 1880: http://www.stjohndc.org/Russian/theotokos/TheotokosE/e_9903_kozelsh.htmFr. David

I also feel that much of the history of this icon may be off. The persons who bequeathed it to them were Jewish and had simply bought it somewhere. The art market was inundated with icons from Russia from after the Revolution, and they were often passed off to buyers by clueless art dealers for something they were not. Neither dealers nor buyers knew much about Russian iconography decades ago. The best way for the parish to find out would be to take it to a museum like the Metropolitan to have the experts date both the icon and the icon cover for them. On the other hand, it is Our Lady's miraculous presence that really matters. In Christ, Alice

It is already miraculous (read/watch the story) regardless of the age or history.

It is already miraculous (read/watch the story) regardless of the age or history. Exactly my sentiment, Ray! I did read the story and watch the video (that is why I posted and titled this thread as 'Two Miraculous icons' )
