Actually, no.

They are a form of 'boutonnieres' and are customary to pin on the 'koumbaroi' or wedding sponsors that crown the couple.

This designates their special status in the ceremony.

Alice

P.S. The crowns are breathtakingly beautiful. Are you getting married?

I would be very cautious about using items from this vendor!

The "overstock sale" portion of their site has nothing but likenesses of pagan deities and their temples.

Dear Pastor Thomas,

Don't worry, it is just a 'Hellenic' site--selling all things Greek-whether touristy (like copies of ancient statues and the like) or religious (like anthing needed for Greek Orthodox ceremonies).

Basically, think of it like a trip to Greece--you will see tourist shops selling 'ancient' inspired stuff, cultural inspired stuff, and religious inspired stuff. All three are what constitute the character of modern Greece.

Wishing you and yours a most happy and healthy new year,
Alice smile

Alice,

Thanks for the clarification. So it is to things Greek what alexandraint is to things Russian.

As we say in the Pennsylvania Dutch country, "Heilige Ny Jaar" (Holy New Year)!
