Nativity Sermon
By St. Isaac the Syrian (d. AD 700)
This Christmas night bestowed peace on the whole world;
So let no one threaten;
This is the night of the Most Gentle One -
Let no one be cruel;
This is the night of the Humble One -
Let no one be proud.
Now is the day of joy -
Let us not revenge;
Now is the day of Good Will -
Let us not be mean.
In this Day of Peace -
Let us not be conquered by anger.
Today the Bountiful impoverished Himself for our sake;
So, rich one, invite the poor to your table.
Today we receive a Gift for which we did not ask;
So let us give alms to those who implore and beg us.
This present Day cast open the heavenly doors to our prayers;
Let us open our door to those who ask our forgiveness.
Today the DIVINE BEING took upon Himself the seal of our humanity,
In order for humanity to be decorated by the Seal of DIVINITY

Dear Pavloosh,
"Rozhdayetsia" is now often used in the "archaic Ukrainian" employed in our Liturgy rather than the Slavonic "Razhdayetsia."
The tense of both is the present one rather than the past tense of "narodivsia" or "was born" and the Liturgy only uses the present tense of the Event.
It just sounds much better in the archaic than the contemporary usage. But "Rozhdayetsia" is used in the UGCC almost universally now.

It was a fantastic Feast of the Nativity for me - among friends , where everyone sang the Liturgy as if they really meant every word , and surely, by their singing, raised the roof of the building several feet into the air.
Then afterwards to someone's house for a feast - and I've experienced feasting before- but this was a family feast and took it to a whole new level

But the Rusyn dialect preserved the Slavonic pronunciation. One of the stupid things our grandparents - when all were Greek Catholic -would fight over when Bishop Ortynsky tried to manage both groups before 1918. One of the reasons why you'll find little towns with five little churches!
