Bio from the site:

2002 student at Pilchuck Glass School, with Tessa Clegg

2001 student at Pilchuck Glass School, with Susan Holland

2000 University of Oregon, ceramics, sculpture with Matthew Buckner

1992-1996 Tver Art School. Major in painting and restoration

1992-1995 Tver Icon School. Major in icon painting

1988-1992 Tver State University. Major in chemistry

Other bio information appears tilted to the US "left coast" (Pacific northwest)....probably the most unchurched region of the US (60-75%). Syncretism fits that milieu.

Before I looked at the site I assumed that they were just non-traditional icons.

It was shocking when I looked at them. They place more importance to plants than to the holy saints. It is New Age/Mother Earth radicalism from way out in left field and is offensive to Eastern worship of the One True God.

Do I need to define the word "parody", people?

Reminds me of the bogus news items in The Onion. It's sad when people indignantly quote them as serious articles. Obviously we have a higher quality of readership who can at least discern when something doesn't seem right.

Although GK Chesterton says that the test of a good religion is whether one can joke about it, the test of a bad artist or journalist is whether one will scoff at Truth.

Yes, it is a parody which assaults and/or offends our Christian sensibilities.

Be that as it may, the artist who studied as an iconography major in Russia, has incredible iconographic talent, and wanted, as an artist to put it to use here in the United States, appealing to the non-Orthodox and non-religious masses.

Are you sure about that, Stuart? See this article here about the artist and her blasphemous icon work. http://www.taz.de/1/archiv/digitaz/...p;cHash=45810a750c9f7dbdf5d6ede8808d2c18

As the genre predates Christianity, you haven't got a leg on which to stand.

Oh Stuart, please calm down and then find someone else to pick on. Your insults and obsession with responding to me with them are getting tired and old.

I think this is neither a parody, nor a genre and nor an art at all. It is a kitsch without any philosophical and ideological basis. It's also not a decorative thing which is pleasant to hang on the wall. It is a dull painting which must not cause any serious discussions.
But what it is written in a German article about this artist causes for concern. She was studiyng iconography in Russia without being Orthodox (it's okey), but she doesn't believe in God at all! How can it be? Here opens a way to another big problem which is widespread in Russia now - anyone can study iconography and paint icons now! There are so many private schools and masterclasses, where anybody who pays can get a diploma of an iconographer. It is really sad! Icons becomes a kind of mass goods. We lost traditions of real iconographic art.
After watching such odd and obnoxious drawings I want to have a rest contemplating masterpieces of iconography

You are right!!! Even here in the west there are those who "paint" and I use that word!!! for they do not write them according tho the ancient and honourable traditions. It seems that it is commercial art factory and the product has much lacking!!!!!!!!
