I'm very excited about this!

Ray (70X7) painted/wrote a beautiful icon for the Passaic Eparchial Museum Fulton Sheen exhibition a few years ago.

I will be visiting New York City next week and will be sure to stop by St Patrick's cathedral to visit the holy Archbishop's tomb.

I heard Bishop Sheen speak once when I was a kid at the local St. Bonaventure's University dinner which was always held at our church hall - I guess the local Irish loved holupki - . He was an impressive figure, he took the time to go into the kitchen and he gave the babas there a blessing and an icon (Bishop Sheen was a rare bird for his day, being a Latin Rite bishop with a great deal of knowledge of, and sympathy for, the eastern Christian tradition - including the Orthodox.) I mention the visit to the kitchen because he was aware that the parish was formerly Greek Catholic (this was the early 1960's so the 'switch' to Orthodoxy was finalized in 1941 when the litigation ended) and he would have known that all of the women were baptized as Catholics and to some - if not most of the Roman Bishops of his generation - they would have been apostates to avoid.

His genuine kindness and palpable love made quite the impression on those who met him.

In the early 1960's Bishop Sheen was a television superstar, having him come to Binghamton would be like getting David Letterman or Jimmy Fallon to come to a dinner and give a speech today.

How times have changed! Bishop Sheen and Billy Graham were known from television, and loved by the American public...they being men of integrity, faith and respectability.

Today, the most vulgar, deviant, and immoral are celebrated, and men (and women) of faith and integrity are largely scorned and ignored.
