Read my profile.
Had Luther's "proposition for dogma" of Justification been accepted the schism of the west might have been avoided.
At the very least the wind would have been knocked out of the sails of Zwingli, who has done incredible damage to western Christianity.
On second thought, perhaps the real miscalculation was permitting the martyrdom of John Hus a century earlier.
Either way, putting down moderate reformers only served to embolden those who were reckless radicals.
The Pentecost prayer service will embolden the radicals in Islam, and they are legion. And I do not use that last word lightly, but deliberately.

I don't know what the outcome of this will be, so I won't comment.
However, the Catholic Knights Templar, before they were excommunicated for a number of infractions, did allow Muslims they traded with and otherwise knew, to pray in their promontories.
That being said, I don't know what the problem is here.
The Pope or other Catholics/Christians won't be praying any Muslim prayers at what is an interfaith service.
If the result of this risk is peace, then it is a risk worth taking.
Alex

Dear Rev. Fr. Thomas, I second your point on Jan Hus! As you know, the Czech Orthodox Church is preparing to glorify both Hus and Jerome of Prague as Saints. There is even an akathist to Hus on the internet . . . Alex

This cannot be good for Catholics or Muslims. However, people seemed happy when Tartars offered their mosques for Ukrainian Christians to use in Crimea. The Prayer of St. Ignatius Loyola is adapted from the Muslim tradition (Sufi).

In what manner do you think the prayer service will embolden Islamic radicals? It's not as if the service is some sort of "take over" (hostile or otherwise). And I hope you're not relying on the evenings news for your perception of Islam. There are far, far more "normal" Muslims out there than there are radicals. The news media just do a good job of making it look otherwise, if for no other reason than the old adage about the squeaky wheel getting the grease.
