I don't know for sure if this may have been the first Orthodox hierarch ever to be interviewed on EWTN, but I arranged for Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia (Timothy Ware) to appear on the Nightly News program with Brian Patrick back on June 26th at the end of the Orientale Lumen XVIII Conference in Washington. Unfortunately it was a VERY short interview (2.5 minutes), but hopefully it might be the first step for more. You can view it at timemark 17:10 on their YouTube archive here:

Excellent! Don't have time to watch right now, but will definitely get to it later tonight, God willing. Thanks for setting up the interview!

I liked his eminence's closing comment: "I think we Orthodox ought to give more importance to the element of primacy, and perhaps, on the Catholic side, the Catholics can learn a little about the advantages--and dangers--of 'collegiality.'"

Many Orthodox would agree, but enough - led by certain monastic communities and in the USA particularly among converts from anti-papist Protestant groups - vehemently disagree. Just watch the Orthodox Facebook groups and forums light up with with ridiculous over the top rhetoric whenever a western media reports identifies the Patriarch of Constatinople as the 'leader of the world's Orthodox Christians ' or even worse - as the "Orthodox 'pope'" .... Sometimes the collegiality concept appears more like an attempt to herd feral cats when the need for decision making presents itself - as in the mideast today...

I very much enjoyed seeing Metropolitan Kallistos (Timothy Ware) on that EWTN segment. It is so nice to be able to put his face with his books. I had never seen him, but have read some of his books and articles. I like his last comment as well, and it seems to me that the pontiff of Rome is not adverse to increased synodality in either the Latin or Eastern Churches, which may bode well for the future ecumenism between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches.

You should watch more of him on YouTube. He has the old way of speaking
redolent of beef and port which no one is brought up with anymore. He also is good at adjusting his speech content to his audience.
