I think one only has to look at the Latin Church since Vatican II to realize the dangers of archaeologism, which Pius XII referred to as "exaggerated and senseless antiquarianism." Many early Church practices that were abandoned centuries ago have created chaos when reintroduced outside of the cultural and historical contexts in which they may have once been relevant. Just because something may have been done at an earlier time is not necessarily a good reason for bringing it back.

I don't see why the order of deaconess could not be restored. There seems to be some debate on if deaconess were ordained in the same sense that male deacons were. Arguments for the ancient order of deaconess don't change the fact the women can not be ordained as priests or bishops. It doesn't need restoring, per se, in all of the Churches, as it never ceased in many of the Syriac ones. Women singing in the choir in the Syriac and Chaldean churches are supposed to be ordained deaconess; Bishop Mar Ibrahim recently ordained another group deaconess before his retirement.

It doesn't need restoring, per se, in all of the Churches, as it never ceased in many of the Syriac ones. There is a wisdom, however, to going backwards, in order to move forward
