Hello all,

I was hoping to take a survey of sorts to see what Bible translations are used for English liturgical texts among the Eastern Catholics and Eastern Orthodox. Mostly this is concerning dioceses/eparchies of the USA but any information about use in other countries is welcome. If this information is already available somewhere I would kindly ask that somebody link me to it.

I already know (at least, I think...) that the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America both use the RSV with the Psalter of the Seventy. If one could help fill in the blanks, particularly for the Russian Orthodox Church outside Russia, I would be most gracious. [Side note, if there is no standard/centralized translation for any church, go ahead and mention that.]

Also, I'm aware that this is a forum for Byzantine liturgy so I don't know if it was appropriate to ask, but if anybody wants to contribute information about non-Byzantine Rite churches (Maronites, Syriac Orthodox, Assyrian of the East, et al.) please go ahead and Private Message me.

Thank you!

The Antiochians issued a new lectionary [antiochian.org] in 2010, which according to a priest posting in this thread [orthodoxchristianity.net] is a new translation from the Arabic Apostolos.

Welcome to the forum,

The forum evolved very early from its original Byzantine focus to encompass all the Eastern Churches - Byzantine and otherwise. So, despite the title, discussion of the Oriental Catholic and Orthodox Churches, as well as the Assyro-Chalean Churches, is always very welcome here and we have a fair representation of members from various of those Churches.

Many years,

Neil

The Syro-Malankara and Syro-Malabar Churches use the RSV-CE in English-speaking areas outside of the US, but usually use the NAB for readings in the USA. Our Liturgical translations, similar to the Chaldean, Assyrian, Syriac, Malankara, and Maronite Churches are Traditionally translations from the Peshitto (the Syriac/Aramaic Bible).

From my experience, most Syriac or Malankara Orthodox were using the KJV or NIV for English, but have recently switched to the Orthodox Study Bible.
