Yes, I'm sure. Blessed Ignatius has not been canonized yet. Beatification is a local glorification though, so we can say that Blessed Ignatius is a saint in the Armenian Catholic Church but that has not yet been extended to the entire Catholic Church until his canonization.

I'm trying to recall was Bl. Gomidas the priest with eight children? I remember finding that story very inspiring (especially as a man with eight children). :-)

The biographies on Blessed Gomidas available online state he and his wife had seven children, two boys and five girls.

They are not in communion which each other; however, this does not prevent intercommunion from happening. Years ago, I was informed by a previous pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic Cathedral in Glendale that a large percentage of people who attend the Soorp Badarak are Armenian Apostolic.

I'm not so sure now that the liturgy that will be celebrated at Saint Peter's on April 12 will be a Soorp Badarak.

It appears it will be Holy Mass concelebrated by the Armenian Catholic Catholicos and the Armenian Catholic bishops.

The two Armenian Apostolic Catholicoi will be present.

It is scheduled as a Soorp Badarak, not Latin Rite:

Thanks for that link!

Holy Mass for the faithful of Armenian Rite - 2015.04.12
Scheduled for Apr 12, 2015
Starts at 10:00 AM - Pope Francis presides at the celebration of Holy Mass on the Second Sunday of Easter, liturgical feast of Divine Mercy, for the faithful of Armenian Rite. Link. [youtube.com]
It's vague enough that it can be interpreted as a Roman-rite Mass, especially when it mentions Divine Mercy Sunday.

I was not aware of this but a Soorp Badarak had been celebrated at Saint Peter Basilica with Pope St. John Paul presiding in 2001 for the 1,700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia. Homily. [w2.vatican.va]

My Armenian Catholic friend who knows one of the Armenian Catholic bishops who left for Rome to concelebrate the April 12th liturgy says the bishop told him the liturgy will be a Soorp Badarak.

The narrator at the end of the video says:
Quote
During Sunday's Mass, which will follow the Armenian rite, the Pope will officially declare Armenian Saint, Gregory of Narek, as a Doctor of the Church.

Apropos the terminology, it should be noted that most Armenian Catholic parishes use 'Mass' on the English language portions of their websites

This just in!

Here is the booklet [vatican.va] for the liturgical celebration this Sunday, April 12th...it will be a Roman-rite Mass. The Gospel will be proclaimed in Armenian. There will also be an official proclamation of St Gregory of Narek as Doctor of the Church.

I was so looking forward to it being a Soorp Badarak.

I was hoping it was a Soorp Badarak as well. I'm guessing if Pope Francis is the main celebrant, he wouldn't be familiar celebrating the Soorp Badarak and that is why a Roman Rite Mass was chosen.

A Google translation of the Latin text (only language available on the Vatican website http://m.vatican.va/content/frances...egorius-narecensis-doctor-ecclesiae.html) of Pope Francis' Apostolic Letter of 12 April 2015 declaring St. Gregory of Narek a Doctor of the Church:

"We have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him" ( Mt 2,2).

The star which had appeared in the eastern part of heaven, the light of a candle in the mind and in the heart of the Magi, which is the same at the moment to seek the true light, which gives light to the world (cf. Jn 8:12), the Lord Jesus Christ, the way to Beth-lehem, it was found after a long adoratumque: "And they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him "( Mt 2:11).

Even in the first centuries of the Christian religion, the Holy Spirit kindles in the east, an innumerable variety of the stars, that is, the saints, wise men, who have the knowledge of the mysteries of God and of his own life by the example of the encounter with Christ and his teaching and more readily induced to the journey. A star is extremely excellent, and which can never ceased to exist, it was also a priest or a monk, St. Gregory Narecensis, the honor of the master of the Armenians and beloved of the people. Here conspicuous with the theologian, poet, mystical and the theological doctrine of their own wisdom and their own insignia of the Gospel and, in our own day it continues to speak of his own nation, the Churches and the universal, which in ancient times, very convenient to use, from the holy worships. Continued his report with the reflections associated precationumque book, entitled The Book of Lamentations , but the Armenian people is commonly called Narecensis .

Besides the good news in Armenia's issue of veneration and especially writing. After this, the volume of the finite Narecensis Gregory adds: "The youngest among poets, among the last of the doctors." Effectively, examining his writings, which are of great poetic inspiration pervade and the largest service, high sense of mysticism and biblical knowledge with broad distinction, certainly not, "is the youngest among poets" nor "the last of the doctors."

The opinions in the historical district verisimiliora Andzevatsik born around the year 950. His father, Khosrov Andzevatsi, and came too late to be clear a writer of active bishop. He grew up in the family of letters of Gregory the Ephesians, that is his, to the institution of, shone. Besides her parents, two brothers, also brought back the tradition of the names, the older and the younger was John Sahak and teacher Narekatsi Ananias, who was his mother's cousin and Narecensis monastery abbot, who is familiar to the young man's spiritual and cultural advancement alumnique contributed.

Gregory youth Narecense monastery is entered, that the age 10 in the south east bank of Lake Van is stored, where the famous school of Bible and History, was present, and where all his religious life and intelligible manner of holiness, and the mystical experience of reaching the pinnacle of his teaching in various theological mysticism Expressing demonstransque works. Dogmatic controversies also gave attention, rejecting most of the claims are heretical sects Thondrakianorum and doctrine also attacked and falsely accused. Already living Gregory Narecensis holiness miracles excellent reputation and is surrounded by brilliant doctrine and spirituality costs is a habit. Has given way to around the year 1005 out of life, that is to say a little later, the book of Lamentations is written, in the year of 1003. In the monastery of Narecensi, is buried near the temple of the holy Sandukht. Immediately after the death of the Holy Spirit is the king approached to the Armenians, and the faithful are accustomed to approach at his tomb. His memory of the people more firmly held, even after the year 1071 ravaged territory. After the deadly events and the deaths of the years 1915 or 1916-monastery monks or saints tomb Armenians completely destroyed.

The calendar of the Armenian Church in the name of Gregory Narecensis day 27 of the month of February, the feast of the aspects of the statute is being raised, and it is. On this day, his memory is also written in the Roman Martyrology is found, where the Armenian monk to the Holy Spirit, and the mystical and, indeed, is great, "the teacher of the Armenians". Of exceeding their theological doctrine or dogma and mystical tradition of the increasing power of the centuries. Numerous miracles are attributed to his intercession. Not much, he wrote. His most famous work was the Book of Lamentations . And there are some of the same things were reported, praises (of the Holy Cross, the Mother of God, of the holy Apostles, of Saint James of Nisibi), hymns and odes (about twenty of religious songs), a commentary on the Song of Songs in the negotiations and from the Letters of the mysteries of the Church, and the abbot of the sect of Thondrakianorum Kedchav the Mass during which the subject is . For some there is a doubt whether or not to belong to him, namely, in the Commentary on Job, "The prayer of faith, morality, and of the whole of the right to be maintained by virtue of", a homily on the examination of conscience, the canon of prayers, the word of consolation for the dead, which is the commentary, in short, in the prayer of Our Father .

Altas on account of their theological positions, the erection of new or the force of his thoughts and of his poetry is always highly esteemed by the people, whether it be from the learned men. More and more it is he hath been compared to certain Fathers of the Church, that is, John Chrysostom, Ephrem the Syrian, Gregory the Enlightener. His work gradually spread to every province of religious culture: poetry, miniatures, music, hagiography, liturgy and laographiam.

Moreover Gregory Narecensis defender before he performs and theologian supernatural efficacy of the sacraments . Furnished to him concerning this matter be dealt with is the doctrine of the Fullness of the errors of Thondrakianorum, to repeat in front of him, who were carrying the origin of the Christian religion, the hierarchy, the sacraments, the liturgy of the Church and rejecting. Here below, the one, indeed, were the precepts of charity and brotherly love. Gregory often thanks to the effectiveness of these sacraments and sacramental ministry of the Church of the sending of the mediation to strengthen, demonstrating the importance of grace for the inner life.

As to other same dogmatic opinions , Gregory Narecensis gives pride of place to the Blessed Trinity, whose image in the soul of man, and especially when she sees the theological virtues comparison. To the mind of the Trinitarian mystery understood when considered with the incarnate. In this way, the familiarity of the Trinity, is obtained with the one who was born from the Father before all ages. We know that the relation of the Sun, in which the Holy Spirit is distinguished from the other two Persons, the other way to criticize rather than to the tradition of the Latin east, the ages of questions, and the Son obligation to you. Constantinople formula firmly retained, Gregory Narecensis trinitarian incarnation connection emphasize, tradition Armenian faithful. He is aware that the Holy Spirit, as it were, in addition, the experience of love between the Father and the Son, but the three divine Persons in the work of creation, affirming involved.

Occupies a special place Panaghia , "That which is nothing other than the divine holiness", "All-Holy One", which tends to exalt pillars, according to Gregory, "the Mother of the Lord" does not cease, and the "Mother of God", magnifies, and most of all the angelic innocence of the purity of each throws light on the whole of that which is out of the hands of the Creator inviolate risen. Hence, the necessity of it is present in the great privilege of Mary's rash actions, which are united with the divine gift of motherhood, such as the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption into heaven, and will certainly take "the presence of the absolute nature of the sin of the Mother of God is invulnerable, and of the office of Mediatrix, as a bridge between God and man". 80 Gregory deservedly word "fine between obligatory [to Mary], emanating from the heart of" listed.

Other theological and mystical reflections Narecensis Gregory called the incarnation, a perfect man and God, the divine and the eternal generation always safeguarded the Armenian Church; Of the Church, which is the people of believers, the Bride of Christ, lord of the chest, the mother of all those who believe that the lay faithful in the universal Church joins with the angels of the specific characteristics of each national flock together the formation process; sacraments, especially those linked to the Christian initiation, name the man who through the baptism of new mediator action ensures that the confirmation of the sacred chrism Trinity Christian's soul indwelling strengthens last sacrament of penance.

Again, in a very special part of the reality of a mystical acts to Gregory, which is not only concerned with human experience in the world or the natural elation of spirit, but of God, the sense of touch, is the fruit of a higher illumination, the act of faith, with which man has for the human being and which are directly linked to, that is, of absolute confidence with respect of the whole of which the surrender of their own manifesting itself in the life of a man, was speaking, God reveals to the invader, the reason for the transforming experience beatificantemque connection leads.

Special character; this is included in the broad outlines of the elements of the mystical experience Narecensis: 1 certain of the deformity of sin, the sense; 2 the sense of God's transcendence, it brings with it the whole of sin who had been defeated; 3 of their end of the human sense of the presence of God; 4, and in expressing self at all, it would be inappropriate to express the word of the perception of the human; 5 is a perception of the decisive work of grace, which overcomes the weakness of human speech and emptiness and fullness omnipotentiaeque redemptive Word opens; 6 Finally, the development of a certain habit, which is defined as "the mystic of the bottomless pit", where apophasis substituted aphasia , which is the incapacity of speaking, which is summarized in the differences between "word" and "the Word" of the dialectic in the saving work of her hard.

Living habits and already after the death of the Holy One, he stands out in particular on account of the perfect orthodoxy of faith. The tradition of the Church following them, in their own country, the Council of Ephesus (431 years) Christology he himself held it, so that in the Formula of Concord is explained, than John of Antioch, finished it, and which the word went out of the year 433 he received the Word of Cyril of Alexandria, a doctor of the Church: "We, therefore, confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, , of God the Son, the Only-begotten Son, perfect God and perfect man ".

His doctrinal heritage altogether Nuvola filesystems www.png [png] Tools.svg impersonation. It is an act of his theology to the mind of God than to speak of God. When the matter of that fanciful, indeed, is divested of all subtilty and all, so that he saw from the direct way to reach the Creator's, he became conscious of a man of his sin, but rather perceives the grace of redemption, that is, to the Divine love, his power. We maintain therefore that in addition to be his doctrine of the good of the universal Church, in every age in the ayer doeth performe, and in all the regions of liquid water and bread.

Has all the reasons to Armenia sacred Pastors often popes as Gregory flagitarunt Narecensis proclaimed Doctor of the Church. Demand recall than the year 1988, the patriarch John Peter 18 kasparian holy Pontiff Pope John Paul 2 has brought. To the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, then, by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger to consult, or research on the teaching of Saint Gregory Narecensis holiness and they are disrupted and to state their view, what has been abundantly the fruits of the world. In this regard, a lot of Narcissus, Patriarch also celebrates the 19 Tarmouni Peter, the Supreme Pontiff Benedict 16 who repeated his request originated. Ever since the first drawing of the Armenian massacre (the year 1915), the patriarch has asked of us by St. Gregory was proclaimed a Doctor of the Universal Church, the return of this centenary. Our consent, the Church's Position on the doctorate is ready. Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is the doctrine of the surpassing worth of the candidate's voter. Theologians Consultors of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, on the day 13 of the month of January in the year of 2015 in a special assembly, the Council and the specific characteristics, the weight of the universality of the writings of St. Gregory the theologicumque deemed to be true and unanimously approved, and a mystical theology, who are joined together in a wonderful manner. On the 17 of the month of February of the same year, the cause was His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Amato, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, Plenary Session of Cardinals and Bishops of the same Dicastery, regard was had, they acknowledged the signs of those who hold the doctrine of the Holy Armenians, which are required to be proclaimed Doctor of the Church. Day 21 of the month of February in the year of 2015 in the Audience granted to the Prefect of the same, we would have received the vows of Cardinals and Bishops, when they had set the universal title of Doctor of the Church St. Gregory Narecensi We have to confer, in the celebration of the feast which was in the intervention of the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter's, on the 12 day of the month of April.

Today, with the help of God and of the whole Church, especially the pastors and to the faithful of the Armenians, it is done. In Saint Peter's temple, the presence of many Cardinals and Prelates of the Roman Curia and of the Catholic Church with the Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians, all the acts and reaffirming your vows, and asked a very willingly and filled with, these are among the divine sacrifice of the third session of the words:

"We, the Brothers in the Episcopate and numerous members of the Christian faithful of the whole world, fulfilling our vows of the most part, the Congregation for the Causes of Saints and hearing the opinion of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith regarding the eminent doctrine, with certain knowledge and after mature deliberation, with the fullness of the apostolic power of the St. Gregory Narecensem, a priest and a monk, Doctor of the Universal Church. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit ".

These things We proclaim and establish, by this decree that the present Letters to protect it, to stand out and remain valid and always efficacious to procure and obtain their full and entire effect; and any indicated and defined; invalid and worthless from now to be done, if anything otherwise, on this occasion, by whoever, with whatever authority, knowingly or unknowingly, to attempt it.

Alex,

Read this excellent article: For Victims To Victors: The Holy Martyrs Of The Armenian Genocide [gallery.mailchimp.com]

The Armenian Church is not putting a number to how many are being canonized.

Quote
The Armenian Church will canonize “the holy martyrs who gave their lives for faith and for the
homeland during the Armenian Genocide.” No specific names will be mentioned nor will a fixed
number of martyrs be defined.
It goes without saying that we cannot assume that each and every
one of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide (even that number is only an estimate)
truly sacrificed his or her life in imitation of Jesus Christ and in complete faith in the resurrection
of the dead. On the other hand, we know with absolute certainty that countless Armenian men
and women were given the opportunity to spare their lives in return for renouncing their
Christian faith and accepting Islam—and they chose martyrdom, so sure were they in the eternal
and irrevocable protection of Jesus Christ.
Out of 1.5 million victims how many were true Christian martyrs? Thousands? Surely. Tens
of thousands? Likely. Hundreds of thousands? Quite possibly. The Armenian Church will
acknowledge these martyrs even though we do not know the names or precise circumstances of
each one. God knows who they are and for us that is sufficient.

The canonization service will be broadcast live.

Here's an answer to your question about an icon of the martyrs:

Quote
The canonization of the Genocide martyrs will take place on April 23, 2015. The ceremonies will
begin with a solemn celebration of the Divine Liturgy presided by the two Catholicoses, dozens
of bishops, hundreds of priests and deacons and likely tens of thousands of faithful. All will
share in Holy Communion. Later in the day a short service of canonization will take place. A
specially-prepared chronicle of the Genocide and its Christian martyrs will be publically read.
Then the Catholicoses’ decree of canonization will be proclaimed. Specially selected Psalms and
readings from sacred Scripture will be read. Relics of the Genocide martyrs will be displayed and
a new sacred icon dedicated to them will be unveiled.
The canon of hymns (շարական /
sharagan) composed for the martyrs will be sung and prayers will be offered, which ask for the
intercession of the new saints
