I recently came across this video on Youtube.

Syro Malabar Qurbana Liturgical Chant Style [youtube.com]

Does someone know if there are two (or more) different "styles" of the Syro Malabar liturgy? Or is this some other kind of service/mass?

It sounds like what is described as the "Traditional" or "Classical" style. The 'modern' styles are more neo-Indianized.

That Eparchy, and that parish in particular are very Eastern. A rare gem even among Syro-Malabar Traditionalists.

Of course, in the course of further delatinization, it has Byzantinized a bit.

Thanks Michael_Thoma.

Is this 'modern' style the most widely used today? And would you be able to venture a guess as to the percentage that uses one style over the other?

I had no idea that there were liturgical 'traditionalists' among the Syro Malabar. Which eparchy is this?

Is the Syro-Malabar Qurbana ever celebrated acapella? Every video I have seen they use those synthesizers which I believe takes away from the beauty of the chant.
