I would be interested to know this too.

But truthfully, I don't have much hope due to shortcomings in my education.

I am sure there are a lot of older men who don't ask about it because they just assume that the church is not interested. Imagine all of the wasted potential out there!

Thanks for bringing it up! smile

The Church should have an interest in it, since it complains constantly about the priest shortage. The RCs have Holy Apostles Seminary, If I recall correctly, that specializes in older vocations. They have even had a graduate ordained in his 70s.

Here older candidates seem to have a choice - either the full 6 year course or they can go to the Beda in Rome and follow an intensive 4 year Course - well that's my understanding.

Six years ago a 60 yr old General Practioner retired from medicine and went to Rome - he's now been serving for almost 2 years in a Parish and has never been happier - or looked physically better either smile

I hope there will be many other folk like him - there's no doubt about it - the older men have a LOT to offer to both East and West

I wouldn't think that is true at all. There are a lot of men who are late vocations. They wives have past on, their children are grown, and all they desire is to serve the Lord. I would think they would be delighted.

I can think of at least two later vocations that are priests in the Metropolia now. There is nothing stopping an older man from applying.

The question is not whether Ss Cyril and Methodius Seminary is accepting older men for the priesthood, but are the Bishops' accepting older men to prepare for the priesthood. If someone is interested, I'd suggest you contact the appropriate eparchial vocation director. There are at least two men whom I recall were "late vocations". Fr Robert Oravetz who serves the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and I believe the other is serving the Eparchy of Parma.

and the previous pastor were in their 50's
when ordained...........
