I'm helping a friend identify a recent acquisition.

Have any of you seen one of these before? It's a sterling silver two piece medal with the Virgin Mary on one piece, and the US coat of arms on the other. Could this have been a wartime military item? It's from a recent acquisition at the Ukrainian Historical and Education Center of New Jersey [ukrhec.org] Ukrainian Historical and Educational Center of New Jersey, and the other materials in the collection date from the 1940s and earlier.

It looks like the Army Eagle would usually have the name of the owner engraved. Belongs to a Catholic Army soldier, whether wartime or not is hard to say.

An American relative of mine had this while in the army. It is a Miraculous Medal, of course, with a medal with the U.S. emblem of the same size and these are made to look like military "dog tags."
