They interrupted the RC church couple of miles away with this liturgical vandalism.
We actually have locked doors and greeters at the moment in case of invasion.

A reaction should be to stand in unison and recite the Creed, then start praying the rosary.
Are Latin Catholics numb?

Are Latin Catholics numb? jova: Christ is Born!! Maybe. We've been conditioned not to make public stands for the Faith, even when we should be offended or outraged. Reacting angrily or confronting this sort of thing is something that would get us labeled fanatics. I stand accused of this. Several years ago our pastor mentioned that he wanted to cut down two trees near the rectory that were rotted and leaning toward the building. Two of our own members stood up, interrupted him, and dressed him down right in the middle of our Liturgy. I was so shocked that I just sat there--numb. Bob

I have thought that one gets the treatment one is willing to put up with.

Bob: I'm not clear on one thing. Was the priest making announcements in the middle of liturgy, after the Gospel? Or did those two just decide to interrupt the liturgy to make a point?

Are Latin Catholics numb? This is actually a very effective idea - I've seen it done before. By way of recent example, there was some sort of conference here by Indian Catholics where they introduced elements of an "Indianized Mass" which included practices associated with Hinduism (e.g. lifting a censor plate three times in the air etc.). Personally, I don't see what is wrong with such inculturation, but that's not my point. A group of traditionalist Catholics walked into the church and began praying the rosary out loud so as to drown out what was going on by way of protest. This made the headlines rather than the conference itself. Also, in Walsingham England where there is the great Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham (Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox shrines together with a Methodist chapel), Protestants regularly organize protests against the street processions with the image of Our Lady. One Anglo-Catholic bishop during one of these processions actually took the liberty of sprinkling a protester with holy water (it was a wonder that protester didn't go up in smoke afterwards . . . ). The Protestant protester, yes, protested against this saying, "How dare you do that to me sir!" Another Orthodox priest I know also sprinkling Jehovah's Witnesses with holy water whenever they come calling . . . They don't like that either . . . Alex

Father Al:
Father bless!!
Actually this occurred after Communion, prior to the final blessing, when our regular announcements were being made. It wasn't during the middle of the Liturgy or after the Gospel.
Asking for your blessing and a remembrance in your holy prayers,
Bob

Maybe I should carry some Holy water, just in case for sprinkling.

Dear Jova, Yes, we should always have holy water near us! My house has had a total of four major, shall we say, "paranormal phenomena" following each time we do a renovation. First, it was loud knocking ten times every so often throughout the night. Next, it was a cement pail being pulled over new concrete floors at the turn of every hour of the night. Then, the Christmas tree turning on by itself (but only at 3:00 am and 3:00 pm). Finally, there were voices which scared our contractor into almost walking away from the job . . . Holy water did the "trick" every time! Now I check to see where my bottle of holy water is before I even do the vaccuuming . . . Alex

Absolutely!
As my family is now on the "alternative" Calendar (meaning the celebration of both Old and New calendar holidays), we can get a double amount of holy water!
This reminds me of an episode in the life of the Orthodox saint the Ven. Amphilochios of Pochaiv (whose feastday was celebrated a week ago).
He was arrested under Stalin and placed in a mental asylum (since he believed in God and was therefore "crazy").
Well-known for his miraculous cures of mental disorders and demonic possessions (which of which was never self-evident at first), he told the warden of the asylum that he could cure everyone there within two weeks . . .
So the warden invited him to do so. But St Amphilochius told him, "I therefore would need my Cross, Gospel-book and Holy Water."
The warden told him, however, to cure the people "without those things."
To which Amphilochius replied, "Would you send a soldier into battle without his weapons?"
So holy water truly is part of the arsenal of the Christian!
BTW, Amphilochius was released from that asylum due to the intercession on his behalf of a woman who came to see the warden.
That woman happened to be . . . the daughter of Josef Stalin himself, who experienced a miraculous cure through St Amphilochius!
Christ is Born!
Alex
