Fulfilling Our Destiny
Theosis, Pope Francis, and the Jubilee of Mercy
A Parish Mission Sponsored by St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Barberton, Ohio
CS Lewis once wrote: “All that we call human history … [is] the long, terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.” The reality is nothing other than God can make us happy. In fact, our destiny is to live in union with God (“Partakers of the Divine Nature” – 2 Pt. 1:4). How we get there is through a process the Early Greek Fathers of the Church called theosis, which is an essential component of Eastern Catholic spirituality. Theosis correlates extremely well with the teachings of Pope Francis in Evangelii Gaudium and what he is asking of us as Catholics in this Jubilee of Mercy.
Join as we address some important questions: What is my destiny? Where am I in my relationship with the Lord? How can I deepen my relationship with Jesus? How can we see the Lord? Who is it that we are called to be? We will explore richness of the Eastern Christian spiritual tradition of Theosis, including tools such as the Jesus Prayer.
Our retreat will begin Friday evening, January 22, 2016, at 6:30pm and will continue through Saturday, January 23, 2016, concluding with the Holy Mystery of Repentance (Confessions) at 4:00pm and Divine Liturgy at 5:00m. The retreat will consist of five conferences which allows participants to reflect on their own progress on the spiritual journey.
Taking time to reflect, renew, and revitalize especially as we prepare for Lent
