In many articles I have read recently, a deceased bishop, for instance +Archbishop Tawil, is referred to as regretted or lamented - especially in articles translated from French, such as those in Le Lien. To my Western mind, as one who has always been taught to look forward to the Resurrection, this strikes me as a strange way to formally speak of a reposed person in the Church. I am more accustomed to seeing "of blessed memory" or something along those lines.

I suppose this is cultural, or perhaps I am losing something in translation?

Here's an example from this forum using both examples to talk about +Patriarch Maximos V.

Quote
The patriarch in question is the regretted Patriarch Maximos V Hakim of thrice-blessed memory.

It comes from this discussion on Divine Liturgy Resources in Arabic
