I am a lifelong Latin Rite Catholic and since Advent 2011 I have been worshiping in the Maronite Church. I am under public vows in a secular institute (Roman Rite), does anyone know if this would hinder me in formally switching rites. I know that no matter what rite one belongs to one can worship in a Catholic rite church. I really identify with the Maronite way and therefore would like to make the formal switch. My superior has no objection to my changing rites! I do intend to remain in the secular institute (of the Roman Rite). Thanks, Maronita

Maronita:

Christ is in our midst!!

Welcome to the forum.

To answer your question, in my humble opinion, you ought to go back to your superior and ask this person your question. While you say there is objection from your superior, it might take him/her taking the question to a higher authority--an authority who will be far more accurate than the opinion(s) you will find on an internet forum.

A Catholic may worship in any sui juris Church in our communion so making a formal transfer is usually only necessary in some situations, such as ordination. Again, you might examine your reasons with your superior and confessor.

May the Lord open the door for you.
