Good evening, brethren.
I'm something of a liturgy enthusiast, and hope to make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land sometime next year. During my pilgrimage to the various sites and holy places, I hope to attend a solemn (chanted, with incense) liturgy every day, and am wondering if anyone on this forum has a thorough knowledge of what the
Catholic (Latin or Eastern) liturgical offerings in the Holy Land are.
I am aware of the solemn Mass offered daily by the Franciscans at the Holy Sepulchre, and of solemn liturgies on certain major feast days at the appropriate shrines, but what about the daily liturgies? The liturgical schedules one finds online (for example,
here [
cicts.org]), don't distinguish between "low" (or spoken) Masses and solemn or sung services. One of the reasons I don't want to join an official or semi-official "pilgrim tour" that advertises daily Mass is I can't stand tacky folk-style Latin-rte Novus Ordos. I know that the Franciscans celebrate a solemn Mass at the Sepculchre and that there are various Eastern Catholic churches in the Holy Land, but I wish someone by now would have published a "recommended liturgies to visit" itinerary for all the various holy places, for those of us who wish to worship liturgically at or in the vicinity of the holy places (and not just in Jerusalem).
Is there anyone here who can offer recommendations? Please note I'm looking for Catholic liturgies, not Eastern or Oriental Orthodox services. Thanks.
