"Icon, Art, and Incarnation" is a four day, three night retreat focusing on the theology and spirituality of the icon by an outstounding retreatmaster and iconographer, Father Brendan McAnerney O.P.. Using multi media, Father Brendan will lead the retreatant in prayerfully examining the history, tradition and spirituality of the icon. $350.00 includes accommoda- tions and meals. Reservations and a $50.00 deposit are required.
Pastor emeritus of St. George the Great-Martyr Melkite Greek-Catholic Church in Sacramento, CA, as well as former pastor of Blessed Sacrament parish in Seattle, Father Brendan is a Dominican friar and a faculty member of the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Californnia, and manages DominICON, a ministry to parishes, schools and other Christian institutions. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Theology and the Arts from G.T.U. As an undergraduate he worked on a BFA at Ohio Wesleyan University, and received a BA in Art History from Boston University. He studied icon painting with various iconographers, including the Russian master iconographer Vladislav Andrejev. Before entering the Dominican order he did further graduate work in art history at Boston University, worked for a prestigious art gallery in New York City, was the director of a gallery and began his own business as an art restorer and art dealer in San Francisco.
On the grounds of our monastery in rural Olympia,the newly renovated monastery retreat house accommodates twelve (double accomodations). Individual rooms may be available on a first-come-first-served basis and at a slightly higher rate.
