My parish (Latin Rite) has just over 2,800 (equivalent) families and our annual bishop's appeal quota is just under $50,000/year, or an average of $17.86/family/year. Of course some give a great deal more and many not at all.
A nearby Byzantine Catholic Church actually states the amount requested -- $275.00/family or single adult. If the Eastern Catholic parish was the same size as mine, it would take in $770,000/year. That's a staggering difference to me.
My parish has more members than the entire Eastern Catholic Eparchy in question. Eastern Catholics really shoulder a remarkable amount of expenses/person. A stunning amount actually. I wonder if this is given much thought?
