Erdogan needs prayers. He will not like to meet our Lord on judgement day as he is today.

He'll need even more prayers; word has it that the beautiful Chora Church in Istanbul is going to suffer the same fate. I think we'll need prayers to endure this effrontery!

I wish we still had the Papal States and a standing Catholic army. It would be good to conquer Turkey and restore "Istanbul" to Constantinople. Perhaps our prayers would be better directed that Vladimir Putin have a conversion of heart and truly mean to build Russia into a Third Rome/Christian Empire. I want to believe he is sincere, but there is still so much evil that he commits and so much corruption in the Russian government (like in any government) that I think the notion of Putin building a Christian Empire is little more than pious propaganda. Were it true, I could get on board with that in a heart beat.

The sad reality of our fallen nature is that oftentimes peace must be bought with a sword. That isn't to diminish the power, efficacy, or necessity of prayer. Just that history bears out few examples where prayer "alone" turned back evil.

Just that history bears out few examples where prayer "alone" turned back evil. The sad reality is that the Church has often not transcended that fallen nature; has acquiesced and conspired with emperors to build empires not her own. Yes, it’s an effrontery to see church treasures turned into mosques. On the other hand, a number of hierarchs and religious orders have taken profits from developers eager to turn abandoned, but quaint churches and monasteries into condominiums, hotels and pubs!

Hence the saying, the road to hell is paved with the skulls of Bishops. A sobering thought if ever I heard one.
