Greetings, fellow Forum friends,

Is anyone aware of a Catholic Byzantine Community in the Emmitsburg, MD area (or nearby PA)?

I deeply appreciate any info,
Charitina

Charitina,

I grew up in Emmitsburg. The closest Byzantine Catholic Church is Patronage of the Mother of God's mission in Hagerstown, MD, where I currently live. We are getting the mission back up and running soon, hopefully before Thanksgiving. It went dormant this past year when Fr. Timoney passed away.

If you are interested, I can add you to our email / mailing list. You can also contact Father Serhii for more details. frserhiipatronagechurch@gmail.com

We borrow St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Hagerstown ... http://stannchurch.com/
Patronage's website is here ... (https://www.patronagechurch.com/)

Thank you so much for you reply! I am actually familiar with that Mission, and glad that it's available. I was still searching for a dedicated church in the environs ... To be continued! smile

A priest from St. Marys Seminary, the Dean of Students, has had biritual faculties for some time now. He celebrates Divine Liturgy at the Montgomery County Mission in Gathersburg MD on most Sunday mornings.
For about 20 years, with the assistance of Epiphany of Our Lord, Annandale VA, he has celebrated Divine Liturgy at St Marys Seminary to allow the seminarians (200 or 250 of them) to view and participate in the Divine Liturgy. This is normally scheduled for November 30, the Feast of St. Andrew.
All the necessary liturgical items must be carried to Emmitsburg, set up in their large chapel, and then returned after the liturgy. For several months selected seminarians form a chorale and practice leading the responses in plain chant. The echoing sound they produce in this high ceiling chapel is magnificent.
For many of the seminarians this is the first opportunity they have had participating in an Eastern Catholic liturgy. Their response is overwhelmingly positive and wonderful.
Unfortunately this year the liturgy was cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

Harrisburg PA is about an hour away, perhaps a bit more. St. Ann's Byzantine Catholic Church is in the North of the city. Current schedule is 6PM vespers on Saturday evening and Divine Liturgy Sundays at 8 and 10:30 in the morning.
