Hello dear friends,
I have owned this ring as well as two others, one ancient Roman and one Greek since I was a child. They were a gift from my mother who is an avid collector of artefacts. I have worn it on different fingers as I grew and it feels as if it has always been in my life. I would really like to know more about it and possibly about the man who had it made and wore it. Thank you very much for reading! May God be with you!
Yours,
Anton Markov

Hi Anton,

Welcome to the forum! Not sure whether any of the forum members will have an idea, but they often surprise me with the areas of expertise they display. We'll see.

You might also want to check Facebook groups that are focused on Byantine art and culture, such as the one titled "Late Antique and Byzantine Studies" - there are a couple others as well

Many years,

Neil

Dear Neil,
Thank you for your response and for welcoming me to the group as well as for telling me about the group. If I find out the history behind the ring I will publish it here. May God be with you!
Yours,
Tony

There is a jewelry store in Ipswich, MA called Gallery Byzantium. You might try their website. They have interesting items like your ring. Gallery Byzantium [gallerybyzantium.com]

Dear friends,
The specialists from that Facebook group and my online research has identified the ring as a French medieval monastery ring with the inscription MARTINUS in Latin. So it is not from Byzantine after all! It was quite interesting figuring it out after so many years. Thank you!
Yours,
Tony
