Christ is in our midst!! Alternative methods for disposition of the dead--beyond burial and cremation with burial of the cremains--have moved beyond discussion to practice in some states. The Catholic bishops of the United States have just issued a statement about the Church's position in relation to these two new methods. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/g...86715cd87b445fb22cd778feb73550&ei=83

Christ is in our midst!!
I'm surprised there is no response to this. Somehow I cannot understand the thinking of reducing someone I love to three cubic feet of compost or top soil. I can't wrap my head around washing the greatest part of a human being's remains down the drain as waste water.
Maybe I'm too old and old school for all this. If we reverence the relics of the saints, why do we not have reverence for our own loved ones?

This method has generated quite a bit of discussion at my professional meetings. Basically, it is a method of reducing a human body to a couple cubic yards of compost/potting soil. I've seen the videos and it certainly is not for me. However, since there are so many unchurched--"Nones"--today, it makes sense for many who think that this life is all there is and a body is just something to dispose of.

Reminiscent of the movie "Soylent Green," if anyone else remembers it. For those who don't, an over-populated world devoid of resources turns bodies into food. The world gets, as Alice said, "curiouser and curiouser."
