Hi all,

I just moved to an area that does not have a Byzantine rite Catholic Church. The good news is they have a Maronite Mission and I have wanted to experience their liturgy for some time. Having now experienced it I really love it!

Are there sacraments that I or my son cannot receive? Obviously, we can go to confession and receive the Eucharist. I believe the closest Byzantine Rite Church is 4 hours away.

Thanks!

Catholic is Catholic, you're fine. Generally speaking, ALL Catholics may receive the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist in any sui iuris of the Church. There are even provisions for Orthodox to receive them (though, whether or not they do, depends on their bishop). Now, if your son has not received Chrismation, there are ways to do that, given that's it's not practical to drive four hours away for it. But, you need to inform the eparchy and the pastor of your circumstances, if that is the case. (I know some Latins that have gone to a Melkite church their whole life, but, are canonically Latin, and have always gone to a Melkite church, I also know a Maronite, who was baptized Maronite, and has always gone to a Latin church).
