Good afternoon,

Where would I go to get icons to place in my home? Can they be purchased online?

Christ is in our midst!

Francis W.,

There are many sources online. There are many monasteries online, as well as Orthodox seminaries and the Byzantine Catholic seminary in Pittsburgh. I would avoid a source entitled "Monastery Icons" because they are not either Catholic or Orthodox.

I get mine from here: https://easterngiftshop.com
I have actually met the family that runs it.
Although one of my icons came from the Holy Land (a priest brought it back for me as a gift).
But, Ditto Theophan, I'd also avoid "Monastery Icons".

The following are, amongst others, excellent sources:
https://notofthisworldiconsandbooks.com/
https://legacyicons.com/
https://www.uncutmountainsupply.com/

Many Eastern Christian parishes also have bookstores and sell some icons.

And yes, do avoid "Monastery Icons".

I think we're unanimous. Plenty of great places to get icons. "Monastery icons" is not one of those places.

There were issues with the initial attempt at url posting.

Moral of the tale: Even after a decade "preview is your friend".

What is the deal with Monastery Icons? I recall reading that they were involved in Hinduism or some other bizarre religion. Either way, I find it off-putting that they make icons of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart, and I'm saying this as a Latin Catholic myself. Those devotions are not Byzantine!

And what do folks here think of getting icons from Etsy? I've purchased a few from there.

Christ is Risen!!

Drummerboy,

Welcome to the forum.

RE: Monastery Icons. There was a very involved discussion about the fact that this group was not Christian decades ago. Best to avoid them.

I have purchased from eBay but not Etsy. I have purchased Icons from antique shops.

Regardless of the source, they go on the Altar for 40 days and receive my Priest's blessing.

So they are blessed? I read that they're considered blessed or sacred by their nature, i.e., the fact that they are already holy images and people venerate them.

My early instruction was that once a blessed item is bought or sold, it needs to be blessed again.

Yes, you can find icons online from various websites. Many religious shops, churches, and monasteries also sell icons online, offering a wide variety to choose from. You might want to check out stores specializing in religious items or websites like . [apostlepaulbookstore.org.au]Apostle Paul Bookstore Make sure to choose a trusted source for authentic and meaningful icons.
