Good afternoon, everyone!
First of all, I'm glad that I've found this forum. I'm a Ukrainian Catholic, and I've recently decided to join the Order of Preachers, but it exists only within the Latin rite. This means I'll need to change my rite to become a part of it. When I consulted a Roman Catholic priest, he advised me not to mention my desire to join the Order as the reason for the change of rite, as it might lead to my petition being denied. Can you help me understand why mentioning this could lead to the denial of a petition?
I have heard that Vatican II wanted to increase efforts to preserve relatively small sui iuris churches but is it the reason?

Christ is in our midst!!
RomanPylypiv,
Welcome to the forum. We hope your time with us will be spiritually beneficial.
If I were you, I'd ask the priest who gave you that advice.

There are eastern rite Dominicans. I suspect the Dominicans can accept vocations from all over the church. Depending on where you are it may mean you might be bi-ritual. In Australia we have 1 Dominican who is bi-ritual with the Ukrainians. We had another who has since died who was bi-ritual with Russians & Ukrainians and was acting secretary of the Ukrainian bishop when his Redemptorist Father Secretary died.

Thanks Pavel!
I have also heard of biritualism. Earlier, some priests told me that after ordination I may receive permission to celebrate Divine Liturgy in the Byzantine rite. However, as far as I understand, in such a case there should be the "main" rite, according to which a priest ordinarily lives, and "the other" rite, in which he is permitted to serve for some time. In my case, I would like to live as a Dominican, and that means my "main" rite should be Latin, so I still have to change it. It doesn't mean I won't be biritual, but I just can't be accepted into the Order and study there while remaining Byzantine. Again, as far a I know.

Pavel,
The Dominicans and Redemptorists are two separate and distinct Orders.

I found my way to this forum fifteen years ago upon the advice of a long time friend, a tri-ritual (Ordinary Roman, Byhzantine, and Tridentine) Priest.
