Dear Dan,

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement, brother. I did not know you formerly were a united Methodist Minister. You must have quite a story! I would be very honored to meet you. Let me know when you're in town and maybe we could at the very least attend Divine Liturgy together?

In Christ's Light,
Ghazar

My Jewish friends even use the phrase, "Pray, tell," when asking a question.

There is a puzzle that I always like to put before these kind of folks: Ask them to show where in the New Testament (or Old Testament) where a list of biblical books are given. If the "Bible told me so," then where did the Bible tell us which books were supposed to be there?

[And if an outside authority determined the canon of scriptures, then what does that say about the authority of the Bible?]

To date, I have yet to get an answer to my puzzle.

Cantor Joe Thur
Dear Cantor Joeseph,

This, in a nutshell, was THE question (if this person could have sustained an intelligent and respectful conversation) I definitely would have liked to explore. Its a very crucial question indeed, and one with no sufficient answer that I've seen yet (hence my allegiance with the ancient Church). smile

Thanks for your feedback and input!

IN Christ's Light,

Ghazar

His "arguments" are no different from the usual anti-Catholicism (much of his rhetoric would have been known to Protestant Americans at the time of the Know Nothings of the 1850's)

The only difference is that these people have discovered the Net. May God change their hearts and help them see with a less narrow vision of God and the Holy Church.

Hopefully your site will bring more people to see this wider vision!!!!
Dear Brother Brian,

I appreciate your reply and comments. Being raised a very anti-Catholic Baptist (southern-style), I know this disdain for Catholics (and anyone like them) very well. Its so easy to hate, isn't it? Hate for me was like a big security blanket. Letting go of that blanket was/is a very painful and tedious process (which I'm still undergoing). I pray Minister Derrick is (or will soon) undergo a similar process as well. Thanks again for the reply.

Trusting in Christ's Light,

Ghazar

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are energies (modes) of the One God. So just as the same man can be father, son, or husband, so the Same Person of the One God Jesus can be Father, Son or Holy Spirit. This group is present today among the so-called Unity Churches, ie, United Pentecostal Church, Apostolic Church, etc. Among mainline groups they are known as "Jesus-only" Churches, because they only baptised in the name of Jesus, and not the Orthodox practice of the Trinitarian formula.

Dear Fr. Deacon John,

I stand corrected. In my haste to react to his anti-Nicene stance I failed to recognize and/or understand these tell-tale signs:

a. recongition of the divinity of Christ
b. identification of Jesus with the Father as the same person
c. the emphatic mantra "Jesus Only."

Thank you for this technical correction. All of you on this forum are a real blessing to me!

Dear Ghazar:

I chose this name because it has stood out to me in my study of Latin and Greek roots that have found their way into English. I have also found it to be an interesting thing to do name etymologies: the study of the root(s) and their combinations to describe the person so named.

This name is one that all of us Christians should have. It signifies that I am one who seeks to "show forth God" to those around me. I try to do it with His grace by being more patient, more generous, more forgiving. Not an easy task, but being a living icon of Christ is never easy.

Just what we are called to do by our Baptism.

In Christ and with you,

BOB

Dear Theophan,

That is a WONDERFUL name! smile

I thought perhaps that you had a special tie with 'Theophan the Recluse'?

In Greek, the Epiphany is also called Theophany.

Blessings,
Alice

Bretheren they are popping up all over the place.
I ran into a neo Nestorian the other day.
However i did have the scriptures for him and the backing of the councils and the Church Fathers.
He was still confussed but unable to answer and said he would like to come back again for more discussion.
