Yesterday, EWTN aired JPII's funeral from last year. It was a moving and beautiful reminder of a great man who led the Catholic Church and left an everlasting imprint on it.
Unfortunately, it was also a reminder that the leader of my church (The Byzantine Catholic Church of America) was (to the best of my knowledge) the only leader of a Catholic Rite to not attend the funeral. My understanding is that he was busy meeting with Protestants at an ecumenical conference in Georgia? Very puzzling?

Dear Michael, Christ is among us! I do not know why His Beatitude METROPOLITAN BASIL was unable to be present for Pope John Paul II's funeral. But your Metropolitan Autonomous Church was well represented by His Grace Bishop JOHN of Parma. One should simply accept that His Beatitude was unable to attend, although he certainly desired to do so, and not presume to make any comment or question his motivation or schedule. Fr. Vladimir

I have wondered why the Catholic Byzantine Metroplitans in North America did not use the title Beatitude, as do other Metropolitans of the Rus.
The question is did the Metropolitan make sure he was there for the installation of the new Pope?

Well Pavel, there was a post here yesterday (where did it go???) that said the Archbishop was called by then Cardinal Ratzinger and told he needed to make sure he was at the installation of the new Pope. If that's true, that's too funny. Hopefully, the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church was then represented by our Archbishop.
Does anyone know if there is any truth to this???
