I am fascinated by the realm of the Holy Angels that surrounds us - invisibly for the most part, but nevertheless felt and experienced on many occasions, I was wondering if anyone had any good Guardian Angel stories to share?

I'll start with one...

In college, I was dating this really cute girl (who happens now to be my wife of 16 years...I guess that means we've been dating for 20 years!). We decided to get a group together and go out for a fun date in Pittsburgh. Around midnight, I was driving everyone home to Steubenville and eveyone in the car had fallen asleep. The road back home was not well lit at all. I was in the right hand lane and came upon a car that was going the speed limit, but slower that I wanted to go! I was going to pass it, when a voice that was very clear in my head said "Don't pass the car." I said (also in my head) "What's wrong with passing this car?" The voice repeated even more emphatically, "DON'T PASS THE CAR!" Finally, after the third time I heard the voice, I slowed down behind the vehicle in front of me and decided not to pass.

ALL OF THE SUDDEN, a car with no headlights on going the wrong way on the highway in the passing lane WHERE WE WOULD HAVE BEEN went barrelling down the road past us. I was stunned. there is no doubt that had we been in the lane where this idiot was pulling this stunt (yes - it was within the West Virginia border :p ) we would all have been killed instantly. I am equally convinced that it was my GUARDIAN ANGEL who inspired me not to pass the car - which I refrained from doing the balance of the journey home!

That's my story! Any others?

God bless!

Hi,

There are two times in my life that I am sure my Guardian Angel intervened very clearly.

The first time was when our three children were young and we were living in Berlin. I was sitting in the living room crocheting, while the three kids were back in the bedroom playing. I heard a very distinct voice in my head aksing "where are your scissors", meaning the little swan shaped scissors I always used for crafts. I didn't need them at that moment, so it wasn't as if I was looking for them, or thinking about them. I ignored the 'thought' and then heard it again, a bit more firmly. I looked in my bag and they were there, and thought of the kids. When I went back to the room where they were playing, our oldest had the scissors in his hand and was just getting ready to cut the cord to a lamp that was plugged in and turned on. At that moment I was sure it was my Angel who had warned me.

The second incident happend last year when we were stuggling in Maryland(I've written about this before). Things were bad financially while Glenn was having problems with his health and we were all getting discouraged and depressed. I had been reading a small book about Angels that a friend had given our daughter for Christmas(I was afraid it might be new-age junk, so I was checking it before she read it). It was a beautiful book and in one part that especially touched me, the writer pointed out that our Angels stand before the Throne of God, glorifying Him, praising Him on our behalf, as well as their own. The author also pointed out that while we may not have a personal experience with our Angel, where we can see or hear them, our Angel can always see and hear us and help us thru. I remembered Berlin at that point and asked my Angel for help. I didn't hear a voice this time, but had a quiet thought that I was praying for the wrong thing and I needed to pray for hope. I did, right then and there and it was later that I found out that at the moment this was all happening, Glenn was getting into the car accident that severely damaged his hip and could have killed him. It may seem strange that I see a connection between that prayer and the accident, but that day had been one of my lowest points in the four months since we had moved to Maryland. What I needed most was hope and I didn't realize it; I had been praying for Glenn to be cured, for financial help, even for strength, but I had never thought to pay for hope. And without hope, I would never have gotten thru the months following the accident and our move back to North Carolina. So I am convinced that my Holy Guardian was directing me that day, just as he did that day in Berlin.

Dear Gordo here's one:

Many, many years ago, I was in a hospital in the upper part of Manhattan having an operation. Now my daughter and mother came to visit me, and on the way home became lost in Harlem. Now racial relations were not not very cordial at the time, and it was getting dark.

My daughter was panicky, she was young and attractive and driving my mothers very, very expensive car. She didn't know where she was, and was too frightened to ask. All she could do was pray.

Well suddenly out of no where, a pure white Mercede convertible appeared before her with a black women elegantly dressed all in white, even with a white turban on her head. Something told my daughter to follow her. Well she did, and the woman led her out of that neighborhood.

We had always felt that it was quite an unusual thing, but it was not until years later when books began appearing about 'angelic occurances', that we began to realize that it had to have been her guardian angel.

Well my daughter told me that the car seemed to appear around a corner, and in all the angel stories they tend to appear around corners...even in dreams. Actually, angel = angle, and in Italian the word angel means a corner.

Which brings me to the name England which I also believe means 'Angleland'. The name might have come about because one of the Popes when seeing an Angle with his long blond hair said, truly he looks likes an angel. Or then again, they might have had the name 'Angle' way before that.

Great stories!

Here are a couple:

My sister Lisa was stationed at Eglin AFB, in the Florida panhandle. The waters of the Gulf around the panhandle are known for being especially bad for undercurrents that can pull swimmers underwater and/or out to sea.

One day Lisa and her young son Stephen were at the beach, swimming in the ocean, when my nephew Stephen got caught in an undercurrent. When Lisa tried to pull him out of it, she got caught in it too. They were both being pulled under the water, fighting for air-- Lisa was convinced she and Stephen were going to die. Suddenly, a young man on a surf board came by and pulled little Stephen out of the current, onto his board. Lisa still figured she was a goner, but was relieved that at least Stephen was safe. To my sister's surprise, the guy turned and pulled her out of it too.

They were led back to shore, where Lisa and Stephen thanked the surfer and tried to recover from their near-fatal experience. For a minute, Lisa had had her back to the young man while she comforted Stephen, but when she turned around he was gone... and there was not enough time for him to have gone out of sight. Hero surfer dude = guardian angel???

The other one I'll write about in a separate post...

The other one happened to a friend of mine's father, David, who was a sailor stationed in the Pacific during WWII.

One day he and a buddy were at their posts on the ship, and both were really thirsty. At least one of them had to remain at their post, so they had to go to the water fountain one at a time. They flipped a coin to see who would go first, and David's friend won.

While his friend went to the fountain, the ship's warning siren started to wail-- they were being attacked by Japanese planes. An explosion sounded, then another. Suddenly, David felt a hand on his shoulder and an unfamiliar voice with an Australian accent said, "Get down and open your mouth." David didn't think to question who the person was, or why he should do what he was told: he immediately hit the ground and opened his mouth as instructed. Just then, there was an explosion almost right next to him-- had he been standing up he would have been killed. After a few minutes went by, and the attack was over, David stood up and turned to thank the mysterious Australian-- but there was no one there. And there was no way anyone could have gotten out without David noticing.

Later, David found his buddy's body at the water fountain... which would have been his if he had won that coin toss. He questioned all of the survivors-- there were no Australian sailors on board. And David, who had not understood why he had been asked to open his mouth, later learned that opening your mouth during an explosion deflects shock.

David was convinced that the "Aussie" was his guardian angel.

I was returning to Chicago from Marinette on a business trip. I had done it all in one day (not too smart) and was very tired. All of a sudden, I found myself waking up and felt someone move my hand on the steering wheel and place me back on the road. No one else was in the car with me. Who else but my Guardian Angel!

What comes to mind is when our youngest daughter was not quite 2 years old, we were leaving the house one day and I had my hands full with the usual diaper bag etc. My little girl was walking out the door ahead of me. There was a strong wind that day and it blew the door away from me as she walked out, and hit her sharply right against her back. What I would have expected to happen--her falling right off the fairly high landing onto the ground below--did not; she didn't even stumble from the door hitting her--it was like nothing had ever happened. I am sure this was her guardian angel protecting her from what could have been a very bad fall that day. Deo gratias.

My guardian angel has saved my life at least on two occasions.

Once was when I was a boy. I was playing in a yard, jumping and waving a tennis racket and pretending that I was a swash-buckling fencer. As I was leaping near a large bush, I heard a voice. There was no one else near me, but the voice was strong and clear and close and somehow all around me. It said, "Look to your left." I looked to my left. I saw that I was very close to a large hornet's nest that was inside the bush. If I had swung my racket in that direction, or if I had fallen into that bush, I would have been stung by dozens, perhaps hundreds, of hornets; and I might have died. Instead, I ran away -- because of that warning. I am convinced it was my guardian angel who warned me.

The other time happened in early October, 2000. I was driving through a mountain pass. I lost control of the vehicle. I was about to crash through the guard-rail on a curve of the mountain pass, and I would have fallen 1000 feet (333 meters) to certain death. At the last moment, I felt my guardian angel take over the vehicle long enough to negotiate the curve. Then, he or she was gone. I was able to drive home without further incident. That incident, however, began a slow but steady process which brought me back to Christ and the Church after having been away from both for years.

There are many other incidents in which I suspect my guardian angel played a helping hand or saving role --and probably many others that I am unaware of-- but these are the two most noteworthy events.

While I believe these temporal acts of saving by our Guardian Angels are important and bear great witness to God's Love for his creation. I believe that much greater is the ever presence and aid of the Holy Guardian Angels when we are faced with Spiritual danger.

I have always believed in the nearness of our angels, though can't remember any stories as wonderful as yours smile The one story I have id from about 30 years ago. I had gone to school with a friend and he had parked behind a vacant fast food place. As I was walking alone to the car in the evening after class I caught sight of a young man several blocks away walking in my direction. The thought very clearly came to me that he was going to follow me. I dismissed the thought as ridiculous and continued to the car. Just as I got there, that same man caught me around the throat and around the mouth. Putting me in the car he asked me if I knew what he wanted. When I said no, he reached for the top button of my blouse, but then picked up the medal of our Lady that I wore. He asked if I was Catholic. I replied yes. And he said he was too, and guessed that he needed to go to confession! so I prayed for him from then until the next time I went to confession. Guess who was waiting in line to go into the confessional when I came out---yup. That same young man! I always attributed that saving intervention to Mary, Help of Christians, Searcher of the Lost.
Deo gratias!
Blessings

Dear Friends,

The Eastern Church Fathers taught that after we've said our morning prayers, we should remain still for a while and "listen" to the inspiration of our Guardian Angel.

The daily prayer rule of the Orthodox Catholic East prescribes a Canon to the Guardian Angel and there is also an Akathist.

We can experience the spiritual presence of our Angel every day.

We can and should also invoke the Guardian Angels of those we live with in our families and friends, especially in times of crisis.

In Penetanguishene, where my father had a small farm, as you drive into the town, there are statues of two Angels on either side of the "gate entrance" downtown.

These represent the Guardian Angels of the Provinces of Ontario and of Quebec.

They were donated to the Town of Penetanguishene by the wealthy banker-father of the Jesuit priest who was the pastor of the Church of Ste Anne there.

He could not accept any money from his father so his dad had those statues built.

They are truly beautiful and inspiring statues and remind us of the presence of Guardian Angels everywhere.

Alex
