Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies on the Ukrainian & Byzantine thread.

Now I have another one! I have a copy of the prayerbook "Vysluchaj Mene Hospody" put out by The Basilian Press. There is a section called "Daily Prayers" which starts with the Sign of the Cross, Prayer to the Holy Ghost, etc. all the way through Psalm 50, the Creed and ending with the Mytareva molytva.

Then there is a seperate section that is entitled Morning Prayers, and another for Evening Prayers. The morning prayers starts with a Prayer to the Blessed Trinity, and the evening prayers starts with "O my all-powerful God". The morning and evening prayers just drop off at the end. They don't end with "It is truly meet to bless thee," or the like.

My question is this: How does one utilize these prayers? Does one start always with the "Daily Prayers" and then continue with either the morning or evening prayers depending? Or are the morning and evening prayers said without this "Daily Prayers" section?

And how does one end morning or evening prayers? Just drop off? I remember in the Orthodox Church we usually ended with "Dostoyno yest jako voistinu", etc. The Daily Prayers section from this prayerbook we would call the "usual beginning", but ours did take just a slighly different form (I was from the Russian tradition), and the usual beginning was alittle different for morning prayers and yet alittle different for evening prayers.

Does one say Psalm 50 at both morning and evening prayers? And the Creed? Is this the usual form for Eastern Catholics?

If anyone is interested, The Basilian Press in Toronto has just come out with this prayerbook in English (it was in Ukrainian originally). It costs $40.00 Canadian.

I appreciate your input!

Happy Feastday of Pentecost to all tomorrow!!

S Bohom,
Chris

Slava Jesu Kristu,

In my very limited experience, the answer to your questions is that you use them as you feel comfortable and your tradition generally dictates. I have researched many different books of prayer from many recensions. With most of them, I had to pick and choose to find a formula that works. I usually had to consult with priests and such to figure out what should go where.
That all changed, of course, when I found the Horologion. If you have the tollerance, I highly recommend it.

Dmitri
