Dear Forum,
The New Martyrs of Ukraine were beatified on June 27, 2002 in Ukraine. The Vatican instituted this as their feast day (Blessed Josaphata and Thedore have different days).
Now, all Vatican documents state June 27 as their feast day, so when a person on the Julian Calendar reads this, he should instantly know that this means July 10 (June 27 on the Old Calendar).
However, in Ukraine people on the Julian calendar were celebrating this feast day on June 27 itself.
What's the deal with that? Does that mean that their feast day on the New Calendar would be June 14?
Confusing.

Dear Tsarevich Daniil, The day was appointed simply because it was the day of the Beatification itself. Orthodox Calendars also celebrate the actual days when the original Glorification of a saint took place. The day was therefore June 27 according to the civil calendar and this must mean, therefore, that it is June 14 by the Old Calendar. Alex

Okay, so if anyone wants to celebrate the feast on the new calendar they would celebrate it on June 14? Or would they also celebrate it on June 27? So June 14 would just be the date for Old Calendarist sticklers?
Okay.

Dear Serene Highness Daniil, June 27th is June 14th on the Old Calendar. And this means that whenever we come to the day of the anniversary of the Papal Beatifications and see that it says "June 27th" on the New Calendar, we Old Calendarists just smile to ourselves, shake our heads and say, wistfully, as we always do, "Don't all these people know this is really June 14th?!" Is the weather that muggy where you are that you don't want to go outside and have some fun in the sun? Alex

You'd think after this thread we would all just accept the New Calendar and be finished with this madness...I know I would. Gee whiz...

Well, maybe if we got some telescopes for the Orthodox (and ourselves) we could prove that the Old Calendar makes no sense (anymore). [Here I must note that I am on the Old Calendar myself].
Alex, I am at work and bored. That explains my too frequent, almost Alex-like posting habits. I wish I could go outside, but I need to pay for university. Maybe you could find me a government job where I would be paid (well) for relaxing outside.
