FLEE! FLEE! FLEE! from this man! I cannot state this strongly enough! He is the self proclaimed only remaining "Orthodox bishop" on Earth! mad He has brought misery and division to those who fall under his influence. His teachings are those of hatred and intolerance. This supposed "hierarch" has been in more jurisdictions than there are Babyshki in Lvov!

with all these phonies out there and the people who love them, I can't help but think of a line from "Where Have All the Flowers Gone":
when will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?

Maybe it's age or maybe it's just a desire for simplicity in my life or maybe it's just prudent discernment:

When I come upon these types of people--genuinely convinced but taking so many steps to claim their legitimacy (the use of "true," "genuine," etc.)--I remember that the Lord has promised to stay with His Church to the end of the age. Though there have been many bad Popes and many Patriarchs who have been deposed for one reason or another, there is every reason to just find those who call themselves simply Catholic or Orthodox and who are in communion with one of the ancient sees that have come to us from history. Can't go wrong there: Rome, Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem. And even there, though there are several patriarchs in some of the ancient sees, it is easy to sort out who the most ancient players' successors are and to find, then, where the Lord's promise is.

Pray for those who spread venom instead of the Gospel that calls all us to "love one another as I have loved you." Shed a tear for those who continue to divide the Body of Christ and remember that, as St. Paul puts it, our "salvation is closer today than it was when we first made our profession of faith." In the meantime try to build up and encourage anyone and everyone to have the gift of the Apostolic Faith that each of you have received, neither adding to it or subtracting from it.

May the Peace from above settle into your hearts and stay there, knowing that He is faithful even when we are not.

Sadly there are some whose venom is masked by the very words of caritas and veritas to which we seek to turn for succor.

The Angel of Light shines brightly on occasion, and it would appear that the occasions are not as rare as all that these days.

No, the "s" in "seven seas" would just make it plural, catacombs. biggrin

Indeed, the "s s" would make it Latin, as in the Redemptorists "CSsR"; which would also make it Ukrainian; which would make it Catholic?

You forgot "and all the Seven Seas", but that would destroy the acronym. wink [/b]

Just to be clear, I am a member of the Genuine Greek Orthodox Church under Metropolitan Pavlos (which is not a Greek-only Church, and is most definitely traditionalist and Old Calendarist, as if that were a problem!). We have nothing to do whatsoever with Gregory of Colorado who was excommunicated by us years ago.

Being myself a defender of the Church Calendar, it grieves me to note that in Greece the Old Calendar movement has led to some of the most amazing culs-de-sac in recent ecclesiastical history. Apart from the obvious solution - which is for the Church of Greece to restore the Church Calendar - I have no idea what could be done to heal the succession of spiritual wounds.

Monk Gregory of Colorado has been excommunicated by the GOC, after he became a bishop in the ROAC he ended up getting himself suspended/retired and then excommunicated from them as well. Here are the documents of each of those events:

Excommunication of then-archimandrite Gregory (George/Abu Asaly)
Quote
Chancellery of the True Orthodox Church of Greece

Protocol No. 503

To the Very Rev. Archimandrite
Fr. Gregory George
Dormition Skete
Colorado, U.S.A.

Athens,
4/17 October, 1997

Your Very Reverence,

On October 3/16 October, 1997, the Holy Synod of the TOC of Greece announced its decision upon your case which was discussed during sessions of September 19 through October 2, 1997, at which you appeared and defended yourself
concerning the charges of serious canonical violations which were made against you by Archimandrite Pavlos Stratigeas.

Your defense was adjudged inadequate, and the Holy Synod has decided to impose upon you cessation of communion, that is, you have been cut off from communion with our Church, and you have been placed outside of Her.

Therefore, you may no longer have or appear to have any relationship or communion whatsoever with us. Further, if in the future you occasion any further involvement in our matters, have in mind that the Holy Synod reserves to itself the right to impose upon you even more severe corrective measures.

By order of the Holy Synod

the Chief Secretary

SEAL [of the Holy Synod]
