Liturgical Press has published a 12 volume "Lives of the Saints". Though it bears the name "Butler's" I understand it is a new work, and follows the new calendar and includes new saints and blesseds of the Catholic Church.

For some reason the "August" volume is out of print and permanently cancelled. Does anyone know why? All the other volumes are in print, and available. With the modern methods of printing, I would have thought that it would be easy enough to keep the entire series in print?

Thanks,

Elias

Does anyone have, or has anyone seen the August volume?

Father Elias,

It would appear that the June volume may have suffered the same fate, as it doesn't appear on the Liturgical Press website.

There is a copy for sale on e-bay

Butler\'s Lives of the Saints - August [cgi.ebay.com]

Btw, the series was published in 1998; at $25 a volume or thereabouts, it may be that demand was too low to justify keeping the whole series in print and that the individual volumes are being discontinued as stock is depleted. There is also a supplemental volume, comprised of further saints canonized during the reign of John Paul II, of blessed memory.

Many years,

Neil

Fr Elias,

Amazon.com lists a number of the monthly volumes including August (and, Neil, also June) for sale.
