Just about anytime except during liturgy. Just let the priest know you want to go to confession and he will, generally, make time for you. Unlike Latin parishes, there are generally no scheduled times since there is no confessional in which the priest waits for penitents.

Oh, wow-- I'm confused. At our church (Ruthenian), there are actual "confessionals" built into the left wall of the nave. I haven't actually seen anybody going in and out of them, so perhaps they are not used. But I have wondered about why they are there at all?..

[/b]Hey Donna, At my church, we don't have a confessional-- we've made the 915: to 9:45 time period (divine liturgy starts at 10) our appointed confession time, though Fr. Tim would certainly make time for anyone out side that. We use the sacristy for confession... there's a kneeler with a screen inside, which I like. I really would like to experience confession the Byzantine way, with the penitent standing or sitting before an icon of Christ and the priest next to him/her. That would be cool! God bless, Karen

Sounds like a relic from from the years of latinization, or possibly from previous owners. Is the temple converted from another use as a Roman church? Byzantine Ruthenian confessions are heard before the Icon of Christ at the Iconostasis or (more commonly in my area) in a private room or office. The anonymous confessional box is an oddity now, but they make ample broom closets. With a little remodeling the area could make a nice niche for a devotional shrine. Michael

Donna,
Michael's response sounds most likely. In general there was a long period of time where our Eastern Catholic churches were actually modeled on Latin churches or, in some cases, were Latin churches that were given/sold to the Eastern Catholic Church.
Since confession is supposed to be heard before the icon of Christ, a confessional is certainly not a part of our tradition.
